Why are women so worried about being fat?!

Question: I have my own opinions on this but just wondered what yours are.

Answers: I have my own opinions on this but just wondered what yours are.

So many many reasons.

Media - magazines and newspapers portray a "perfect" airbrushed image which is totally unrealistuic, yet we still strive to achieve it.

Advertising - Brands advertise using these perfect images and hope that we'lll buy their product thinking we might get that little bit closer to looking that that.

Shops - Shops don't sell the right sizes. I am 5'11" and a size 16. I am prefectly normal. I am fit and healthy - I walk, run, cycle and play netball. I am normal weight - yet i can't buy clothes in most of the high street shops, and definitely not any designer shops.... so even though I know I am normal - these shops make me worry that I'm fat because their clothes don't fit me.

Family and friends - we grow up surrounded by women and watch them try on clothes, picnch their hips etc. And themore generations this continues the worse it gets. We also spend years as girls gworing and becoming women surrounded by groups of girls. - I was always bigger than my friends-cos I'm so tall and always have been -- so when I was a teenager i always felt fat cos I couldn't borrow my friends clothes while they all swapped all the time.

So many more... but i think i've written enough.

Because society (NOT the "patriarchy" women are as much responsible if not more for it as men) tells women they ought to be, they learn to be from female peers and relatives that is a normal behavior and it is expected and accepted that they will be.

Pressure of society to conform and look like all the "celebrities".

maybe because society these days picture beauty in women
as tall, beautiful, perfect skin, and a great body.

But it really isn't about that at all.

Sure, it's great to have a beautiful face or a great body,
and controlling your weight is important but

what makes someone truly beautiful is having a pure heart.

Because in the end, that's what matters the most.

Society? Family? I know my grandma would always say, "you're so pretty...if you would only loose a little bit of weight." Now I look back at my high school pictures and realize I looked GOOD! I guess we don't know any better if no one else tells us.

Because we are surrounded by this celebrity culture. I think it started as a fear of not attracting a partner and being single forever, but now it's almost like if you eat more than a lettuce leaf and crouton and don't work out 24/7 then you should feel disgusted with yourself.

They always say the worst critic is yourself, but I think it's other women! lol

i'm worried about being fat because i feel if i'm fat i'm ugly.

its because you see all these beautiful thin models and actresses and well makes you think you were them! its a lot of presure!
xxXxx

I think that what happens is that someone is really "successful" and people who also want to be successful (most if not all) look at this person to try and figure out why this person is successful and they are not.

These people would have started off as various sizes, but as time went on and the bitches came out... they would use physical appearence to slag each other off until the larger people started to disappear.

So we are left with a situation where women read magazines, the people in the magazines are "successful" and all happen to be remarkably thin, just so that no one call call them fat.

Then these women go away and think that if they are thin, they will be successful too.

because the world is revolved around staying fit and looking great and thats that.
nobody wants stretch marks or ripples.

we want to be toned and look good.
pretty much.

Well for health reasons and also because, well, most men like their women model looking than american looking :D

People are never satisfied with what they've got. I think i'm too thin, and am trying to gain weight, I'm sure if I was larger I'd think I was too big and go on a diet.
