Yeast infection, over the counter?!

Question: i think i have a yeast infection. it's my first one ever but going to see doctor is not an option cause of cost. there are many over the counter medicines like Monistat, Vagisil and other that you can see on the internet and other answers.

could you help me out?? i live in Melbourne (australia, not florida) and would love to know:
what does these kits contain?
which is the recommended/most effective brand/kit?
how much are they? and can you buy them at any chemist?

Monistat and Vagisil as well as many other brands all work and are sold over the counter, I don't know the price where you live but you should be able to find them in any pharmacy.

They come in different doses, there is a 1 day, 3 day or 7 day packet, they are just higher dosages as the frequency goes down.

Some contain tablets that you insert and they melt and others also contain a topical cream for around the area to stop the itching.

They melt from your body temperature which allows the medication to be absorbed into your body were needed and the excess will come out so wear a pad to stop it from going into your clothing.

Just a little tip I learned over the years as I had many yeast infections in my time. If you eat yogert it will cut down on the yeast infections, do not apply it internally as some old wise tales state, it will cause infections.....

I leaned that little trick in my 30's and the infections cut way down. I use to get one every time I had intercourse and with each period.

The doctor said it is caused by a chemical imbalance where the acid and alceline balance is thrown off. The yogert puts it back into balance when you eat it.

He also told me if it is a bad one, clean yourself out with one capfull of white vinigar and a lot of warm water mixed. It will correct the imbalance back quickly.

Good Luck, I hope this helps you, it worked for me for many many years.

It's good that you have learning know about this stuff rather than later. But try vagisil... and if it keeps on then you have to go to the doctors.

What ever you use make sure you at least use a 3 day dose....the one day doses are not as effective and if you really have a bad one i would suggest a 7 day....As far as brands go, i usually get the walmart cheepie. It works just as good as the name brands and saves so much money!

vagisil is great, after one day the cottage cheese disapears

Since affordability is a high priority for you, I have a terrific remedy for you that is CHEAP and EFFECTIVE.

Buy a small bottle of TEA TREE OIL from any health food store. Wet the end of a tampon and insert it (it does not matter if you are having your period or not). Change the tampon 3-4 times per day adding the tea tree oil each time. Your infection should clear up in a couple of days, depending on how bad your infection is. One bottle of the oil should last you for YEARS!

It is important that you are CERTAIN that it is a yeast infection! Only by seeing a doctor will you know. After it is identified as such, you will not need a doctor in the future because you will recognize the symptoms.

Finally, it is important that you know why you got a yeast infection. Read up on causes on the internet. The causes are NUMEROUS.

You need to see a doctor especially if it's your first yeast infection and since you don't know for sure it is one.
Taking medicine over the counter for something you don't even have is bad for you.

Get to the doctor. There are clinics around for people who can't afford doctors nor have insurance. Your health is at stake here.

Yoguart. Plain, unsweetened from the grocery store. Apply liberally to a tampon and insert it. Leave it in for about 20 minutes then remove it, repeat twice- three times a day for 5-7 days. Always clean up down there when you are done.

Try vagisil aswell, it works great and keeps away the stinch. If it last more than 7 days you need to get to an ob/gyn.
