Hysterectomy?!

Question: Hi, I'm 18, and was diagnosed with Menorrhagia/Dysmenorrhea...I was wondering if I would be able to get a Hysterectomy at my age?

When my mom was 23, after having me, she had her tubes tied and she said she had a VERY hard time getting a doctor to go ahead with it. They kepy asking if she was sure, and that she may want another kid, and blah blah blah.

And well as for me...I'm gay, lol. So I was planning on adoption so I'm really not worried about that.

I just don't want to deal with the illness anymore. I'm on medicine for that, but our insurance covers Hysterectomies, so that's not an issue, but just wondering if anyone thought it may be hard for me to actually find a doctor that's willing to do it since I'm so young, considering what my mom had to deal with which is nowhere even near what a Hysterectomy is! :(

Thanks! 10 points to best answer!

P.S

Sorry it was so long!

YES< you can get a doctor to give you a hysterectomy at the young age of 18 if you are sure you'll never want to get pregnant. You sound very mature for your age, so if you find an understanding doctor and explain it to him just as you have written it down here, he or she should be more than willing to give you the hysterectomy. I've had a "complete" hysterectomy a few years back but it took many years before I could find a doctor who was willing to do it even though each period was so painfull I couldn't stand it even with strong pain medication. I'd suggest though, that you keep your ovaries. That way your body will still produce hormones and you won't go into sudden surgical menopause. Good luck!

talk to your gyn about options.
