Help...I want to prevent these things?!

Question: When i was younger, I RARELY got utis...only one and that was in the 2nd grade when I was going through a very awful time. Last September (I was 19 at the time), I got a uti from out of nowhere. I was really puzzled as to where it came from. I was thinking that it could be menstrual pads and maybe had developed an allergy to them. Over two weeks ago, I got another one. Not to get too graphic, but I remember the entire time I was on my period, I noticed that every now and then it'd really irritate me when I urinated. Then it went away....or so I thought. Four days after my period, the symptoms of a uti surfaced and I questioned, why, because I always drink a lot of water, wear mostly cotton underwear, wipe front to back, and hardly EVER take baths (last time I think I was 7 lol). I would do anything to prevent these and NEVER want them back...ever. Any advice?
