Whats the difference between Iron and Ferrous Sulfate?!

Question: I was prescribed FS for my low iron count. Is there a difference between FS and Iron, or is it basically the same thing?

I took my first FS pill today (325mg) and I felt like I was going to vomit for most of the day. I'm sure it didn't help that I didn't eat anything with it. Is this a common occurance while first taking the suppliments, and will my upset tummy stop?! ughhh.

I take naps religously. Always have since I was a kid. Not just a 45min or so nap. I'm talking a 3 hour a day nap. I'm hoping these suppliments will help me NOT rush home from work to take a nap ever single day haha.

Iron is administered not as iron but as ferrous sulfate, ferrous gluconate, or ferrous fumarate. Some breakfast cereals are "fortified" with microscopic iron filings or iron dust, but I'm not sure how much of that iron is absorbed.

The usual dose of ferrous sulfate is 325 mg, like what you took. It should always be taken with food. One tablet a day is enough, and you will only absorb 1 to 1.5% of that.

If you have the same discomfort when you take ferrous sulfate with food (I hope you won't), then I would suggest you try a smaller dose of iron or one of the alternate preparations, such as the gluconate or fumarate.

You will probably need to continue taking iron supplements in some for a minimum of 3-4 months, and possibly longer, depending on your response.

frrous sulate is iron combines with sulfur, so it will be asimilated with FOOD , why not just eat lots of lentils, beans , prunes beets, spinach, you will be doing your body a favor.
