Birth control patch?!

Question: i've been thinking about going on birth control for a few months now. i'm 16, and my boyfriend and i have talked about sex, but we both agreed it would be better to use both birth control and condoms. i hate swallowing pills, and i'm not a fan of shots, so the birth control patch seems like the most logical answer, but there seems to be some controversy about it? does anyone know why there are so many people against the patch?

[and please don't tell me that i'm too young to be thinking about having sex, or that abstinence is the "best choice". i'm don't need your criticism.]

I tried it for a little while but the dose was too high for me. I got headaches and depressed. If you don't think that will be a problem and you don't smoke it is worth trying. It was much easier than the pill. If you aren't going to remember to take the pill at the same time everyday then it is less effective but the pills are really small and easy to swallow. Using condoms also is a great idea because STDs are just as much of a problem as pregnancy.

The patch is just a good of a way as the pill or other contraceptives, I think a lot of females dont like it because you have to wear a patch all the time. And they worry about them coming off, (which the shouldnt). Another good alternative is the ring. That you dont have to take any pills, no shots, and can just foget about it for the week.

Just use the condom, after the sex check if there is a hole, if not then party and get drunk. if there is.... name your baby kevin.. or take a morning after pill and BAM.. HEALed...

I think the controversy has to do with the patch has a higher incidents of blood clots (rather than the pill) which could lead to a stroke.
Really birth control pills are really tiny, unless you have a medical problem you should be able to swallow them.
And I commend you and your boyfriend talking about sex and birth control before you do it, shows you are responsible, many teens are just having sex and thinking of the consequences later, I'm proud of you!

i think the patch is cool 4get what other people say try it 4 yourself also u should use condoms and birth control don't want to get pregnant. I'm happy that you trying to protect you self.
FYI birth control doesn't protect from std

the patch might come off thus you lost the protection
next is that the absorbtion of the hormones from the patch depends on your skin and body. some might be too strong for those with thin skin wherelse too weak for someone which had thick skin/less pores on skin. best way? google out rythm method(method by observing your cycle)
