A triple major with two jobs and no time to eat? When do you find time to have sex?

Sorry about that! Yes, not eating can affect your menstrual cycle. In fact, a whole list of things can, such as:

1. Pregnancy.
2. Recent miscarriage or abortion.
3. Loss/gain of 10+ pounds. Affects hormones.
4. Recently-begun exercise program. Affects hormones.
5. Illness. From common colds to ovarian cysts to adrenal disorders, these can affect hormones.
6. Medications. Especially birth control medications, steroids, narcotics, alcohol, and some phenothiazines.
7. STDs.
8. Stress. Even everyday stress can affect those adrenals, which then affect your hormones.
9. Age. Some girls take up to 3 years after menarche (first period) to become regular.

I volunteer at a womens health and pregnancy clinic, and I go over this list with every client.

I'm concerned that your stress will eventually affect your health. This may take years, but it may also take months or just weeks. It sounds like it might already be affecting your periods, which means it's affecting your entire body.

Your menstrual cycle begins when your hypothalamus and pituitary signal your body to release hormones that cause buildup and shedding of your uterine lining. Stress and not eating affect your brain, which then affects your menstrual cycle.

Could be alot of women spot when pregnant. I would give it until a missed period though. Then take a test. Hopefully you keep up with when your periods are suppose to be.

Stress can effect your period greatly, you might even skip it a couple months. If you do not eat, it could shock your body into reducing your flow, or skipping a month. With all the stress and exercise gymnasts go through, most of them do not have a period until retirement. This is true for all women. I have thyroid problems and sometimes do not get a period for months. Your hormones could be out of whack. A lot of women spot when they have sex when they are pregnant. I did with my first, but not with my second. For goodness sakes find out if you are pregnant! If you are, that baby needs nutrition!
