A catheter is a tube that draws off fluid. There are urinary catheters.....and, no, they don't hurt. And, there are catheters for IV fluid, other than small butterfly needles, they don't leave needles in veins anymore.

A urinary catheter is placed by a professional that has cleaned the area around the urinary meatus.....the opening that you pee from. The catheter can be used one time... called an "in-out cath" to collect a sterile specimen or it can be an indwelling catheter with a balloon (5 cc's) full of water so that the catheter stays in the bladder. In-dwelling caths are usually used during surgery and for a short time post-op/

OUCH!! It is going to hurt just to give you a heads up. It is a little tiny tube that gets inserted into your urethra.

It's a tube they insert into your urethra.. It's qite painful... so beware....

basically it is a tube they will insert into yor bladder. they are usually ussed to take urine out of the bladder not put it in - basically they will put a tube through your urianary tract and than a small balon inflated to stop it slipping out - its very common but a bit painful - they will sedate you when they do it (usually)

It's a procedure that isn't much fun. A nurse uses a tube small enough to go into your urethra, (where your urine comes out). They guide it until it is in your bladder and it lets your urine out as needed. Sometimes the doctor will order an input and output. That is he wants to know how much you eat and drink and he also wants to know how much urine and fecal matter is collected. I hate catheters, they make me feel like I always have to urinate.
peace

not to scare you but please be prepared to bleed and take pain medicine......it hurts so much but the pain doesn't last long................good luck.....

ask your doctor because everyone tells you different things. also visit a drug store thats a good store to go to

Dont let them scare you.
I had one put in for surgery..
It is uncomfortable yes..but it isnt so painful you wont be able to stand it..and after it is in for a little bit you wont even feel it..

They just insert it so you can still release the urine and it wont be everywhere or you wont have to stop the surgery and go pee.

You will be fine. Good luck!
Hope all goes well.

It's a tube inserted into your urethra so you dont have to get up and go pee. I've heard it's painful, so goodluck.
