What is an STD panel?!

Question: I went to the doctor yesterday because of some pelvic pain. The doctor took a swab, but she didn't specify what she was testing. She just said "I'm going to take a culture." Then I had some blood taken (not sure why), but I asked if I could have an HIV test added on. She said yes, and then she checked off "STD panel" on the sheet.

What exactly is an "std panel" and what will it test for? Do you think it includes things like chlamydia and gonorrhea?

I know I should have asked her myself, but everything was so rushed and I didn't even think at the time.

STD stand for Sexually Transmitted diseases. You can only be tested for HIV / AIDS if you agree to this and have given consent. The vaginal swab you gave will be sent for cultures, they are looking for infection of any sort as well as STD's. Chlamydia will be the first thing they look for as often this goes undetected. Then all other STD's to rule out any kind of infection. You should get your first set of results within 10 days.

a test that checks for various std. typical in a pap and pelvic exam
