I had my hysterectomy when I was 32 (that was 23 years ago).

It was the best thing that happened to me. I had started hemorrhaging in July and did not stop until I had my hysterectomy at the end of September. It all happened rather quickly....I got three doctors opinions (2 said surgery, 1 said D&C's) . The examinations were rather nasty because of the continual hemorrhaging.

After the surgery the doctor apologetically said that my uterus "was ugly" and that if he had taken out only the fibroid tumors that there would not have been enough uterus to even talk about.

After I healed I had so much energy!!! In fact, it was hard to hold off wanting to do housework right away because I had been so anemic and in pain.prior to surgery.

Today the surgery has to be a lot easier than it was 23 years ago.

Good luck to you, I don't think you will regret it.

My mom is JUST out of that surgery. Shes in so much pain right now and can;t really do anything.

When I was 24, my doctor told me I would have to have a hysterectomy. I had a fibroid tumor that was causing me to bleed half to death every month. Since I was single and didn't have any children, that wasn't acceptable to me. I got a second opinion and found a doctor that was able to remove my fibroid tumor and leave my uterus intact. It was the best thing I ever did. You don't say why you need to have a hysterectomy or if you have any children or not. But just remember that a hysterectomy shouldn't be your first choice. Medicine has come a long way. If you don't agree with your doctor, you always have the option of getting a second opinion.

If you have any questions or want to know more, feel free to contact me. I'm always willing to share my experiences.
