A Female Question. :]?!

Question: I'm a sixteen year old, I've been having my period for a few years now. And, while it's generally 'okay' for me (not very much pain, no emotional changes, etc.), I've found it to be a large inconvenience.
A friend mentioned that the Pill can stop periods until you stop taking it for a week. Is this true?

Are there any ways that I can 'stop' my period. I never wish to have kids when I grow up, and I've looked at stuff like tube-tying, but I don't want to do that now. I don't care if it's STI-effective or anything. I just want to stop my period, or at least control it...

Thanks.

Go to the doctor or planned parenthood and get the "shot" or depo provera. I was on it for almost 2 years. You get a shot every 3 months, and you will never get your period. SO EASY!

The pill doesn't stop your period it just regulates it so that you have it around the same day every month. My period was irregular until i went on the pill now i know the exact date that my period is coming but it doesn't just stop. But it depends on which pill you're taking. There is this pill that you take and you only have 4 periods a year.

There is not way to stop is, it is just a fact of life for all women....There are pills that claim to only have one every so many months though....You do not want to listen to that friend though...What she is suggesting can really do damage to your natural hormone levels and this can be dangerous especially if you start doing it now and continue to do it for years.....I know this is not what you want to hear but sorry ! We all go through it!

Sometimes you can 'skip' your period by not taking the pills you are supposed to take during and just going to next month. This is not good though, and you really shouldn't do that. They have recently, though, come out with a pill where you only have your period one time every 3 (or 4? I don't remember exactly) months. Talk to your doctor about it, and all your options, and they can help you decide what's best for you.

If you just keep taking your pill and dont stop for those 7 days when u are supposed to, then yes you will not get your period.

My sisters Dr told her to do this as she was getting her period on hwe wedding date, but he said only do this for one month as it is not healthy.

If you go on the depo shot for birth control it lasts 3 months and you do not get your period on it.

no way to stop except if you get your insides cut out

Go on the pill, that will control it, although i think its kind of unnessacery when youre not sexually active. And i have to add, theres no way in the world you can say at 16, whether or not you will want children in the future. Even when you reach say 25? no good doctor will allow you to have any such procedure to permanently sterilise you.

Also - Don't mess with anything that stops you from bleeding for more than 2-3 months. There is a very real risk of uterine cancer resulting if you do.

you can go to your doctor and get the pill. it makes your periods lighter and shorter. And if you dont want kids in the future get your tubes tied!

There is this birth control called the nuvaring. It is inserted into the vigina and it can stop your period until it is taken out for a period of time. The web site can give you more answers.

the pill will help you control your period, but it's not something i would recommend for a 16 year old. there can be a lot of side effects, like break through bleeding in between periods, cramping, headaches, extreme emotions, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. it takes a while for a woman to find a pill that works for her. the hormones in the pill really mess with your system, and i don't think it's worth it when you're 16 and your hormones still haven't really regulated. basically, going on the pill because your periods are inconvenient is not a good use of birth control. it's not healthy to stop your periods. there's a reason why women have their monthly cycle.
on a side note, i swore up and down that i would never have kids. i didn't change my mind until i was about 20 years old. no doctor will tie your tubes at your age, not even until you're about 25, and many won't do it until you have a baby.
