Forgot a Tampon in - Need advice for over the counter meds/douche?!

Question: I forgot a tampon in for 1 1/2 weeks. Luckily, it has been retrieved. My question is this. I am a Can. girl residing in Taiwan, and do not speak Chinese. In addition, tampons are not frequently used here. I would like to get an antibacterial cream or iodine solution or something, but don't really want to go to the doctor here and try to explain. Does anyone out there have any advice on over-the-counter or "home remedies" to stave off possible infections?

Do not douche! Vaginas actually clean themselves, so flushing it with water or soap will wash away good bacteria in your vagina and not fight off bad germs. If you don't notice any change in odor or color or thickness of your discharge, then you have nothing to worry about - your vagina has done its job and cleaned up after itself! But if you notice a foul smell, grey, yellow, or green discharge, or white, chunky discharge, itching, burning, or any other uncomfortable feelings, then you may have to see a doctor and get a simple course of antibiotics. If you will be back in CA soon, then you can wait to see the doctor. Otherwise go see a doctor in Taiwan (there are definitely English-speaking ones pretty much everywhere in the world today) and simply tell them you think you may have a yeast or bacterial infection, and they will test you for that and probably STDs too (unless you've never had sex). I wouldn't worry too much though. Our bodies are better at taking care of themselves than we give them credit for lol.

When you pulled it out did any pus or anything come with it? If yes then you need oral antibiotics. If not then just shower daily but do NOT Douche you will just screw up your ph and open yourself up for a bigger infection and go see a dr as soon as you get back to Canada

if you havnt had any problems yet you prob wont - things like antibacterial stuff is more liekly to cause problems than solve them - cleaning out you vagina causes a lack in the natural cleaning bactria that live there and clean out your vagina - at most use clean warm water but not soap or cream or anything. if you do get an infection then maybe you can get some canestan posted to you??

health is not something to be fooled with esp internal issues i would make an appoinment just to be safe they wll give you something you can use. your health is more important than your ego.

I really can't imagine leaving a tampon in that long. It seems to me, you'd notice it long before then. Yes, it could cause an infection. Doesn't anyone in Taiwan speak English, especially doctors? There is a product on the market, but I can't remember the name -- where you can test yourself for a yeast infection. I'm terrible about remembering names of products, but maybe some of your Chinese friends could act as an interpreter for you if you wanted to see a doctor there.

how do you go a week and a half and not notice youv'e got something stuck up there...I don't get it

Don't douche, it will only mess up your system. If there is a strong smell or unusual discharge you will prbably need to go on antibiotics that doctors prescribe. Let your body take a rest and if your period comes in the next couple of days use pads.
