Getting your first period LATE.?!
Question: my cousin is 16 and she hasnt gotten her period yet, shes growing normally but im really worried about her and her mom is freaking out and wanting to take her to the gino. ive convinced her to hold off. bc my first trip to the gino wasnt very pleasant and i dont want it to scar her for life. anything you know?

there is nothing wrong with her! some people just start late! some dont start til they are 20!!!
16 is fairly common, but if she doesnt start in another year, you need ot take her to a gyno! she might need hormone shots or bc to start her period, but there shouldnt be anything to be afraid of! just take deep breaths and it will be over before youknow it!!!
there's nothing wrong with having a late menustrual cycle.
Is your cousin very athletic? Thin? On medications? Stressed? If she seems to be in puberty probably nothing to be concerned with. However she may want to get it checked out just in case.
It is normal to not get your period until you are 18. She is probably fine. A gyno visit is probably not necessary. She is probably just a late bloomer :)
okay my mom wanted to take me when i was 14 b/c i hadnt gotten my period but i seen my doctor and she said i couldnt get checked down there b/c im not sexually active and i wasnt 18 yet, i got my first period at home when i was 16 yrs old.
If she doesnt have a lot of body fat she wont get her period, especially if she is working out. I have some friends that didnt start until they were 20 because they were in just really good shape and working out all the time.
I think girls starting early has become such a norm that people forget when it should be happening.
What about other signs of puberty - hair and breast growth? If those other things are there, then I'd see the doctor. If you don't like the doc, try a different one. It wont' be a scarring for life - she'll get over it.
you can't get your frist period late....there is no such thing, your period will come when she is ready. other than that she could be underweight, or stressed which also cause periods to hold off. all of you should RELAX and the mother and you should ease of on your friend a little, as you both are stressing her more, putting presure on her and making her think by not having a period at 16 is abnormal which it isn't.
it wouldn't scar her for life to see the gynocologist. What would really scar her for life is finding out that she has a medical problem that could of been resolved but yet gotten worst for putting it off. Take her to a gyno asap and if everything is ok, then just enjoy. pads really do suck. Am I right?

Well i'm 15 and havn't started yet so i wouldn't be freaking out and i really don't want to see the gyno iv'e read what they do in magazines like seventeen and it is really scaring me i don't want to go so give her some time before you rush into things.
