Did razor burn give me a yeast infection?!

Question: I have started shaving my vaginal area for this year. I usually start shaving 'down there' in spring through summer. I am yet again getting razor burn and ingrown hairs.

I have shaved for the last 2 weeks. Now I find myself to have the sysmptoms of a yeast infection. Burning, itching, irritation, white discharge and fowl smell. I started on Monistat 7 day ointment and am hopeing it goes away soon.

Do you think the razor burn or shaving caused this? I shave on my inside labia to get rid of the hairs there too? Also, I just bought Veet bladeless hair removal kit and wondering if I can use this while getting treatment for yeast infection and with a yeast infection? Maybe the creme with the veet would make it worse?

Shaving does not cause yeast infections but it can cause an irritation. First of all, you have no way of knowing your yeast problem is actually an "infection" as the symptoms of an irritation can mimick infection. Hopefully the Monostat will take care of things, but if it persists for more than a few days you need to seek healthcare.
As for shaving, it is possible that whatever you are using to shave could disrupt the delicate balance of Ph in your labia area. Use a gentle soap or better yet, a baby wash. Shaving cream, although it appears to be gentle, often contains irritants to such delicate areas. Every woman is different so try a few different things.
It is VERY important to use a NEW blade EVERY time you shave your genital area. Old blades gather Staph like crap gathers flies. One nick and you're running a huge risk of contracting a staph infection or potential skin infection in an area where you really don't want one.
Remember, your vagina has very specifically balanced Ph and bacteria that must be maintained to stay healthy. Bald can be beautiful but infected is decidedly not.

No, razor burn would have nothing to do with a yeast infection. There is this cream called Bikini zone that will prevent ingrown hairs and bumps.

If you just use soap then there shouldn't be an issue but if you are using shaving cream that could be the cause of the infection. Wait until you are over the infection before using veet just to be safe.

do you use shaving gel???? i shave my "stuff" about 3 times a week to keep it completely free of hair...when i fist started i wasnt using gel i was just using water and sometimes soap and i got a lot of the same issues....soon after that i started using gillete for women shaving gel and i havent had that problem since....

as for the yeast infection im not sure...maybe something was too tight down there

I used to shave down there. But I found my self always getting infections. Then I got a staff infecting with yeast. So I stopped. It wasn't worth it but I don't wear a bathing suit so you might want to. But maybe you need a different razor or not creme. Try different things but try not to shave as much as possible!

Yes you can get a yeast infection from anything that irritates you down there for a while. Soap, pantyhose, condoms, sex, being damp, antibiotics.

Do not use Veet it is a chemical and you can get a chemical burn from it.

And in general a yeast infection does not have a foul smell. Make an appointment with your GYN.

Why don't you leave a strip of hair strait down so you are not irritating your most delicate parts all the time.
