Birth control and health clinic?!

Question: I called and set up an appointment to get birth control at a local health department. When I was giving the lady my SSN (This was over the phone, I called and set up an appointment) she said that someone else's name was popping up under my SSN. I go next Wednesday, but I've been just worried for some reason. I hear of illegal immigrants in the country - and I'm thinking did they just use my SSN? She told me to bring a photo ID and my SSN. This was just very strange. Has anyone had this happened before and/or know what could be wrong? I've been to a Health Clinic to get shots before. Also, the lady said I could get free BC depending on my income. Both my parents are unemployed (Step-dad got layed off, so looking for a new job) so I should get free benefits, right? I've never had sex, but I've been dating my boyfriend for about a year and a half, and just want to be safe, because we've talked about it.

First of all congratulations on being so careful! that will really be beneficial in the future.

About the SS#? that really can be a big problem, so I suggest when you go to the clinic make sure they say that they already have that ss# in the system, and also make sure you are not mistaken about your own ss#.

If they already have that number in the system, you have to report it to the police for identity theft. that is a huge offense.

I am also almost positive that you will be able to get free BC if both of your parents are unemplyed.

PLUS, don't worry BC is not bad for you, and now it is proven that it can prevent, well help prevent, cervical cancer in girls.

I have been on Orthotricyclen low for about 4 years, and it's great. no weight gain, no break outs, nothing!

good luck! and stay safe!

If you can go and check out the SSN thing, I wouldn't wait. Identity theft is something no one should have happen to them.

As for side affects of BC, all medications have some type of side affect and they don't affect everyone.

You are also correct on the income issue, if you meet their guidelines, then they will tell you if it is free or how much you owe.

Good Luck

don't worry, you my need to call the ss board an let them know
that your having problem with your number .that someone may have it . the lady at the h.d my have misunderstood you when giving your number to her over the phone. that's happen to me. when i was doing my tax papers.

The SS# issue is really strange.. I would report it. Don't worry about the police knowing you went to a clinic, who cares!

I'm 22 and went on Seasonale (only 4 periods/year) 2 years ago. I got it for free because of my income. I would definitely recommend it. My PMS disappeared completely while I was on it. I stopped taking it because my purse (and pills) was stolen and I broke up with my bf. I've been off it for 1-1/2 years but the PMS has still not returned! I don't know if it was the pills or if I merely outgrew PMS.. either way i'm happy.

Look up birth control options (webmd.com is good) and think about it. Pills can sometimes lower your sex drive and they're annoying to remember, even if you have a good memory. But they work! Personally, I swear by condoms and keep an E.C. pill on hand just in case. The withdrawl method doesn't work, I found out the hard way. Some people are more fertile than others and you don't want to find out what category you're in til you're ready!

When you go make sure she was typing in the right number -

I just went to the PP lask week and it's based on your weekly income. At my place the line was 198 dollars/wk- Make under, check up is free; Over and you have to pay. You will still have to pay for the BC but it's cheaper there instead a chain pharmacy.

Side effects - Shorter, lighter periods. Less-no cramping. Regular periods. No ovulation. Most have a 99.9% effective rate, meaning 1 in every 100 women on the pill could get pregnant (not that they will, but they could).

Make sure to take it the same time every day. When I started my doc told me to take at bedtime that way if I got nauseous I'd be asleep and wouldn't notice anything. I've kept with that because I'm never up at the same time every morning but am awake the same time at night.
