I think i inserted the tampon wrong.....?!

Question: stupid i know.
but this is my first time using a tampon and i don't have anyone to help me because i'm the oldest girl in the family and my mom doesn't know how to use one, and i'm going to a pool party....

well when i first inserted it, it hurted, but when i finally got it in my vagina it didn't... then later it started hurting again when i'm standing.
but when i'm sitting it stops. when i look at it. Part of the tampon is sticking out. I know seeing the string is normal but i can see the butt of the tampon when i raise my leg trying to push it in again.
is this suppose to happen?

sorry and thanks

The short answer, no that shouldn't happen. Here are some things to try:

Put a little vaseline on the tip of the tampon to lubricate it a bit as you insert it - that should solve the pain during insertion problem.

Then, put it in as far as you can - there should be just a bit of the applicator still showing when you push the plunger.

The tampon should push at bit deeper into you as you push the plunger - the applicator will want to just come out but keep some pressure on it to encourage the tampon to stay deep inside.

Properly inserted, you should feel it inside you for a few minutes then it should disappear. You will probably feel it a bit as you swim, when you make large movements. It should not stick out at all, just the end of the string should show - and if you are worried about that showing out from under your swimsuit, just tuck it up inside a bit.

Hope that helps.

LOL i like how u used HURTED but im wondering how long did you have it in for cause maybe that was the time that you were suppose to change it cause when i put mine in the only time it is irritating is when it needs to be changed

no, you have to insert it farther in
the front half of the applicator should be all the way in, and then push the back of the applicator to push it in

No, your tampon should be well into the vagina. When you insert it put the applicator all the way in (your fingers should just be holding the end of it at your labia). Then you should push until it is out of the applicator. This is how you get it in all the way. It is probably uncomfortable because it is in wrong. Don't worry, it takes a little practice. Once you got it your period won't be such a pain because having a tampon in feels like nothing at all!

Tke it out and try again with a fresh one. If you can get the kind with the applicator those really help.

Best way for me - Squat and push. Make sure the tampon goes all the way in and the only you can see/feel outside is the string. Without an applicator push until your first knuckle is in. You shouldn't be able to feel it if it's in right.

push it farther or try using another brand with an applicator to guide you through.. anyway, you shouldn't worry too much even if you're going to a pool party, rest assured, the flow will stop when you get into the pool. it's a woman's body's natural reaction when you soak yourself in the water..

well, what size is it? if your new to tampons, you may need smaller than some other women.
also, you dont want to see any except the string. you need to relax, and insert it fully inside. the applicater itself should be pretty far in to position it right. if it hurts it is not positioned right and not only will it hurt, but it may cause you to leak.... so... try again til you ge it right and change frequently..... good luck,

It sounds as though you don't have the tampon inserted far enough into your vagina. My 16 year old had similar difficulty and then I purchased the OB tampon for her. She had much more luck with it. I think the applicator was too much for a first time user. It was a bit intimidating. Try again or perhaps give the OB a try. No applicator..Good luck and hang tough! You'll get it.

uhmm i do not think its in all the way.
use a plastic applicator tamon and make sure you you put it in all of the way and push the button thing...
sorry its kinda hard to explain.
goodluck
