How is brown discharge old blood?!

Question: I read that it is old blood that your body is getting rid of. Does this mean that blood is trapped in your body and when it finally comes out it's brown and old.

Would this be an infection risk.

It's actually still reddish, there's a high amount of iron in your blood, and as the blood dries it tends to become more brown due to the reaction between the iron and oxygen I believe from memory. And no it's not really an infection risk anymore than normal, your body is just flushing out the last of the accumulated material, clean as normal and you should be quite safe.

It can be. But sometimes on your undies its really hard and yuck, If so..Its probably just ol' blood, notying to worry about.

Its not an infection risk. Blood turns brown when its been sitting. This is your bodies way to clean itself out. Your going to be ok, dont forget to wash.

It comes out brown because it has a long way to go my midwife said, on its way down it changes colour.

The look of it can alarm anyone but usually its nothing to worry about, that's what I was told after being frantic.

I would not say infection risk is positive because usually a fever or any kind of swelling would be cause for infection worry...check your symptoms at the website if you like. .
