Ladies only please. (serious question)?!

Question: Hi, I have thrush, so used a pessary on friday night, and ever since, have been experiencing alot of chalky white discharge. Is this normal? Or should the pessary have disolved completely and not come out? Also how long will it take for symptoms to disappear? I cant really tell if the discharge has stopped (due to the pessary) But im still quite sore and red. Please tell me if this is normal.

(sorry if you think this is graphic, but i just need some other ladies opinions/experience)
Thanks

Hi yes this white chalky discharge is very normal this will stop very soon , this pessary usually helps quite quickly , have you used canistan for the redness and soreness , this will also help , if it isn't any better in a couple of days go see your gp. ps if you havn't any canistan at the moment try natural yoghurt, a great substitute and it works . hope you feel better soon.

In my experience, the single dose never, ever works. Get yourself a 7-day treatment.

What's a pessary?

I always take a single-dose oral fluconazole tablet. Much more effective than OTC creams and suppositories, but prescription needed (in US). Very fast-acting, inexpensive.

Pessaries don't usually dissolve completely. They turn chalky, as you said. It can be kind of dry and clumpy chalk like substance. If you don't see any improvement within 3 days, then go back and get another treatment. I think that the pessaires are stronger than the creams, but the fact that they are usually one off treatments dont help as much as an ongoing treatment for atleast 3 days. I also think that although they are stronger treatments, they dont soothe the area like a cream will. If you continue to get it, you can also try some other things to go a long with your treatment, like eating a lot of yoghurt, and you can get acidophilus tablets which can help a lot with keeping the candida bacteria at bay a bit more.
