Question about the cervix?!

Question: Hello all - i recently went for a colposcopy, which showed me my cervix and its opening, luckily it was a false alarm and I have a healthy one. BUT I have been thinking, the cervical opening seemed closed tight and I was ovulating on that particular date.....do you think the opening is meant to be slightly more "open" whilst ovulating?

May sound silly but I am TTC and this has been bothering me for a few months!

Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer me some advice or help.

I will also ask my doctor when I see him in a few weeks.

Congratulations on a healthy cervix! If you had a colpo done it was because you had a cancer scare, right? Having been there and done that and really don't want to go there again...I understand.

Your cervix goes through cycles of opening and closing. It can depend on what's going through your body at a particular time. Around time for your period, the cervix thickens and opens a bit. It also allows other fluids to pass through.

Please check with your doctor.

My two cents

im not an expert but i thought your cervix only oppens when your in labour and then it opens to 10cms when its time to push .itd be nice to know if im right or wrong ?

If you fold your thumb into the palm of your hand and bring your index finger down tight over your thumb that is how a normal cervix looks. It will only open during labour or if there is some medical intervention.

Actually, during ovulation, the cervix is higher up and more difficult to get to. And if anything, more closed than usual. I know, it sounds illogical. Basically it's to ensure that only the best, most "athletic" sperm get through, so that only the healthiest sperm get to fertilise the egg. It's kind of like an obstacle course for the male side.
