Cervical dysplasia, although serious if left untreated, is nothing to worry about if you're getting medical attention. Basically there are varying levels of abnormality on the cervix, which they rank as 0 (normal), CIN1, CIN2 and CIN3 (the three stages of abnormalities) and cancer. To go from normal to cancer takes about 10 years.

So what the gynaecologist will do is tell her what level of abnormality she has. If it is bad enough, they will operate and remove that part of her cervix.

I had this done recently... it is done under general anaesthetic and it takes about 6-8 weeks to heal, so no sex during that time. After that, she will get pathology results telling her if the dcotors think they got all the abnormal cells out. If not, they will operate again.

You COULD get pregnant before having a biopsy, but it's better to get it out of there (the abnormal cells, i mean) before they get worse.

It's impossible to tell who the HPV virus comes from - most people in life carry it (I think around 90% of people) but only some find out. I think it comes down to immune systems - if you've got a good immune system as a woman, I guess you've got less chance of having problems like dysplasia.

In any case, do what the doctor says - get it removed if the biopsy comes back abnormal, and then get pregnant afterwards.

Good luck with everything...

it is not cancer and it did not cause the miscarriage. as long as she goes for all the testing, she has a very low chance of it ever becoming cancer, though this is a possibility. remember though that dysplasia is a precancerous condition, IT IS NOT CANCER. Dysplasia is also curable but usually not treated until it is moderate or severe as the mild cases very rarely become cancerous and often go away on their own anyway. That is why you go back for a second biopsy in a few months, see if it is getting worse, going away or staying the same. It will not affect her chances of getting pregnant in the future either. If she is a smoker, she should stop now. HPV loves tobacco and smokers have worse disease than nonsmokers

No, it's not your fault. I'm sorry about the miscarriage. Dysplasia means there are abnormal cells on the cervix. Sometimes this can be a pre-cancerous condition and sometimes it means she may always have an abnormal pap. Her doctor will probably recommend more frequent paps than the usual annual one. Go with your wife to her next appointment with all of these questions written down so that you don't forget them. As for what caused the miscarriage, her doctor may be able to better answer that question than an online search. I have cervical dysplasia, had 2 kids, no cancer and have a pap twice a year...and I'm 50. good luck.

Awww! Okay, well, first of all, take a deep breath and relax. If you are stressed, she'll be stressed. I would do some more research on cervical dysplasia if I were you.( possibly web MD or something like that) FYI 20% of all first pregnancies end in miscarriage. It's NOT your fault. It's NOT her fault. Just calm down, she really should be fine if the Dr. isn't worried. If she does not have cervical cancer, I would definitely recommend asking about getting her vaccinated for it.

.

I had cervical dysplasia & went to the Dr.'s office & he did laser surgery on my cervix. My Insurance wouldn't pay for me to go to the hospital. I wasn't sedated or anything the discomfort I had was cramping. I think I had to have 3 pap smears 3 months apart afterwards. The 2nd pap smear came back showing cervical dysplasia again, I again went for a biopsy, then had to have the laser surgery again. This was 15yrs ago & I haven't had any trouble since.

Go to http://buellerskitchen.com/?page_id=33 and read "Girls Corner: The story of how I reversed cervical dysplasia and candida". It should answer all your questions and help you and your wife decide how to proceed.
