What do I do...?!

Question: I think I may have some troubles with my period. I spoke to my uncle who is a doctor and he suggest endometriosis. It runs in my family and I have heavy sore periods that last for nearly two weeks where I have to spend a lot of that time in bed. When I'm on the pill is slightly better. It also runs in my family.

I don't know what to do because at the moment I'm seeing so many doctors and on so many different drugs for fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue and if I mention this then my life will actually be over run by doctors visits and medication.

I'm so scared and I don't know what to do. I don't have my Mum here and I don't want to worry any of my friends here.

I'm really upset because of the risk of infertility with this disease. I'm only 18 and I want to be able to have children but I'm so scared my body wont let me.

I'm so exhausted and tired and I can't go to another doctor about this. What am I ment to do?

Huge hugs, I know where you are coming from hun.

I suffer from Endo and its an awful, life limiting disease. I would suggest you get seen asap by a Gynae for advice.

The only true way to diagnose Endo is by Laparoscopy. This is a minimally invasive surgery to look inside the pelvic cavity to see what is going on in there.

Once you have a firm diagnosis there are many different treatments that can be discussed with your Gynae to find the best one that suits you and your lifestyle at present.

One of the main things I would say is that the symptoms you are being treated for that have been suggested are Fibromyalgia and CFS can actually be caused by Endo.

Endo causes severe fatigue and many other physical symptoms that you would not automatically relate to this disease.

Please try not to worry about the possibility of not being able to conceive, this is not always the case in patients with Endo, and the sooner you get it diagnosed the better your chances of it not affecting your fertility in the future. I was blessed enough to become a mother myself, albeit after a little trying, but nonetheless I have a beautiful daughter now.

I would reccommend you read up as much as possible about Endo on the net or from library books so you are armed with all the info you need.

A good book to get is "Endometriosis for Dummies" - its fantastic.

All the best, I really hope you get a diagnosis soon and some treatment. xx

Edit:

Hunny, dont let anyone make you feel bad for being so unwell, the last thing you need is anymore guilt. I totally know where you are coming from, its hard enough feeling like you are the only one in the world who cant do this and that let alone people telling you to get yourself together - what do they know about your life? Its no wonder Endo (particularly) and many other illnesses are misunderstood when there are people out there that judge so quickly. Never judge someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes I always say. Please dont worry about people who have never felt like you have, they should count themselves lucky. xx

Go to the doster or your ungle and get some drugs to help you.
or your life will be more diffecult

sorry but unfortunatly another dr may be best but perhaps a gyny.they can help with fertility when needed too.

it could also be a side affect of so many meds.

hope this helps.

Find a Doctor who specializes in WOMEN'S HEALTH, not just a GYNO. Stick with one Doctor.
Personally, it sounds to me that you're dealing with a lot of grief and boredom.
Get out and walk or volunteer at the Humane Society or something, Get your mind off your problems and help someone else out.
It truly will make YOU feel better, spending your time helping someone else out! I promise!

My medical training is pretty basic, but my first thought is that you're getting a side effect from a drug interaction. Disrupting hormonal cycles is a pretty common side effect of drug interactions.

I'd think that was more likely than you developing endometriosis at this point. Do you have 1 doctor at this point or several? If you're going to one for the fibromyalgia and another for the chronic fatigue you run the risk of them not paying attention to what the other doctor has you on.

There is no alternative other than to see a doctor Wabby, one specialist who can review every thing you have wrong and then diagnose exactly what is wrong and prescribe appropriate treatment.

I suggest you go to another doctors. You should concentrate on getting better at the moment, Don't think baout anything else. Going through this without your mother is gonna be painful, but you have to concentrate on making yourself feel better, Try that extra bit harder to get up in the morning, You shouldn't be feeling like this it is not fair your only 18! So i would suggest you see another doc, tell them everything, they will help you, i know its long, its hard and you just wanna give up but don't! I recently found a lump on my breast, i went to doctor after doc, who then tranfered me to the hospital, it turned out to be nothing serious! But you have to have the stengh to just keep going!!!

You Go Girl!:D

Same advice Wabby, Look After Number One First.
I know I would be hot under the collar but if you don't take care of yourself you will end up in hospital, or back home where you can get looked after.

Wabby, I have a really good suggestion. You should really hear me out for a sec. I missed my period for 9 months (no i am not pregnant) and my mom said i should drink 2-3 cups of SOYMILK everyday. Then my period came back and everything was normal, soymilk helps so much with the hormones in your body and it also helps with growth hormones.

I suggest you try this.
