Does it hurt when you use a tampon for the first time?!

Question: OK, so basically I am 14 years old and I have had my period for about a year. I have been using pads, although I hate them and I think they are gross. (Plus I am always worrying that some blood got on my pants and it's showing.) So I want to start using tampons soon because those are what most of my friends use and I am sick and tired of pads. Also with summer coming around I would like to go swimming while I have my period. So, my questions are...

1) Will it hurt my first time using a tampon?
2) What brand of tampon should I use?
3) Is it easy to use a tampon?
4) Do you think I should start using tampons or stay with pads?

Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it. =]

***Anything else that you can tell me that might help me out would be greatly appreciated as well.

1) Inserting a tampon shouldn't hurt no matter what! Check out this webpage for how to insert it. Also read the instructions on the box. (http://www.beinggirl.com/en_US/goods_tam...

2) I personally use the little tiny o.b. ones and have only used pads for one day. I hated them and I dance ballet where we're not allowed to wear underwear, so I basically had to. A lot of girls like Tampax Pearl and Tampax Sport, as well as Playtex Gentle Glide. If you get one of the ones with an applicator, get a plastic applicator. My friends think that's easier. If it won't go in easily, put some K.Y. Jelly on it and it should glide right in.

3) It will be tricky to use one the first time, but after a while it get really easy. It's weird at school the first time, but they make ones with cloth wrappers now or plastic that's perforated so you can't hear it in the bathroom.

4) If you don't mind using pads, you can stick with them. If you don't want to use tampons, you could use a DivaCup(http://www.divacup.com) which stays in all day and doesn't smell. You can swim in one of those. One of my friends loves one of those and one hates it. It depends on your personal preferences. If you want to switch to tampons, do so.

***) If you don't want TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome, a very rare, deadly disease) change your tampon every four hours. Use the lowest absorbency possible. In other words, the tampon should be completely soaked with blood within 2-6 hours. If not, go up or down an absorbency level. Wash your hands before putting it in, I can't stress this enough. The website I included has a very helpful video on in if you want to watch it. If inserted correctly, you shouldn't be able to feel the tampon at all. If you can or if it hurts, you probably did it wrong. Also, make sure if you're using one with an applicator that you don't leave the applicator in all day. It will hurt. If you want to tell your mom but don't know how, write a list of why you want to and show it to her and ask her if she wouldn't mind. She's probably an old pro at using them. You could also send her an e-mail asking her. It shouldn't really hurt the first time you use one, but you may break, tear, or stretch your hymen (a clear flap of skin covering the vaginal opening). This might hurt a little bit, as some girls have very thick ones. If you feel a sharp pain accompanied by a little bit of bleeding, that's probably what happened. If you ride horses, do ballet, or do gymnastics, you probably tore it a long time ago. Mine was torn a LONG time ago doing a roundoff backhadspring toetouch roundoff-into-splits. Mine apparently was thick and I remember because it was ten and I felt like I was going to pass out. Some people find it helpful to hold a mirror and watch, some people stand with one foot on the toilet, and some have to lie down on their back. Do whatever works for you. Sometimes the gynecologist has to break it for you. I hope I helped!

If it helps, I'm turning 14 in May and I've had my period since January this year.

a tampon leaks more than a pad
just get a thicker pad

I personally, hate tampons.

It doesn't hurt, but you have to make sure you are getting it into the 'hole'. It really doesn't hurt, and if it does that means your in the wrong position. Start with what feels good, it will just feel very uncomfortable, and you'll have to get used to it. And don't worry, it can't get stuck up there. There are many brands of tampons out there, I'd suggest anything you like. It's not that easy to use it, but it will be alright after. You may have a little extra bleeding because, usually, after you interest a tampon your hymen breaks. [AKA 'Cherry Popping']

it doesn't hurt at all.
choose the tampon depending on your period discharge if its heavy or light, it says on the box.
you can try pearls they work good for me.
i recommend it its very comfortable, an hygienic. go ahead try them if you don't like them go back to pads. remember every women is different so what makes you feel comfortable will work for you. good luck

it really doesnt matter what brand you use..they all do the same thing

its easy to use tampons

and personally if im worried blood is going to leek or anything like that.. i usually just wear a tampon and also put a pad on just incase...but thats only if im at school or something like that..if im at the beach or whatever i wear only a tampon

hope this helps!

1) Will it hurt my first time using a tampon?yes but only bcuz 9 times out of 10 ur gonna put it in wrong
2) What brand of tampon should I use?playtex gentle glide or slim fits..and it does matter what brand because u want to be careful not to use a cardboard applicator provided by tampax
3) Is it easy to use a tampon?yes instructions come in the box
4) Do you think I should start using tampons or stay with pads?this is totally up to u i started using them when i was 15 but i started my period when i was 9 a day b4 10 actually...tampons r much more comfortable than pads but always wear a pantiliner to prevent leakage

You may experience some discomfort, especially at first, but I didn't think it actually "hurt." Once it is inside your body, you shouldn't feel it, if it's in there correctly. Insertion is the hardest part. Lock yourself in the bathroom with a box of slimfit tampons, a mirror, and a jar of vaseline. You can either straddle the toilet bowl or put one foot up on the toilet seat. Unwrap a tampon, and stick just the tip in the vaseline. Using the mirror, attempt to insert the tampon into your body at a 45 degree angle. You will screw up a few times, most likely. Once you think it's in, push the little stick up into the applicator. If it hurts A LOT, it's in wrong. Yank the string, flush the tampon, and try again. If you can't feel it, it's in. Make sure it only stays in for a few hours. Absolutely no more than 8. It should get easier as time goes on.

1. The first time putting it in will be kinda hard, espically since you probably are used to it.
2. Tampax Pearl
3. After a couple of times it will be easy.
4. TAMPONS they are so much better, and more comfortable( you don't even feel them once they are in)
Make sure you put the tampon in all they way. I hated wearing tampons because it used to hurt, but i found out I didn't put them in all the way. Once I put it in all the way It was painless.

I was about 14 when i first used tampons too. And for the same reasons as you...I couldn't find pads that helped with the leaks around the sides (even the ones with "wings"), and I was always worried about the bulky look and also he odor.

If you are still a virgin, the first time you use one will hurt a little, and it will be kind of tricky to get it inserted. I remember my first time, crying in the bathroom because I couldn't get it in. I have to say, though, after I figured it out it got easier and easier.

Start out with slim tampons...the larger absorbencies will be harder to insert your first time, and are not recommended anyway because of TSS. I used tampax and swear by them.

My first time, I had to lie on my back on th bathroom floor to insert it. I tried sitting on the toilet to inert it for a half an hour, but it didn't work for me. It has to do with the way your vaginal wall is angled that makes it easier to insert while lying down. Don't worry though, after about two times, you really get the hang of it and don't have to lie down anymore!

Hope this helps you out!! And best of luck to you....Pads are so yucky!

1) Will it hurt my first time using a tampon?
-Not at all. Just relax and it'll go in just fine.

2) What brand of tampon should I use?
-I don't think any one brand is better than the others. I tend to like Playtex Sport ones, but that's just me. Personal preference, really.

3) Is it easy to use a tampon?
-Very easy. If you're unsure, just take a look at the instructions that come inside the box before you try them out.

4) Do you think I should start using tampons or stay with pads?
- Again, it's personal preference. When I wear tampons, I usually wear a light pad also just in case there's leakage. I wear pads and tampons about equal amounts though. Depending on what I'll be doing that day I'll put different items in my purse that morning.

Good luck! You'll be fine! :)

it doesnt hurt.. well if you put it in crooked it does.
but i'm athletic so i prefer tampons over pads.
but i used playtex gentle glide. (use nonscented-b/c you never know if you are allergic to the scents.. and you don't want to have an allergic reaction down there.)
but i've tried tampax pearl, but i had super discomfort with it.. because the tampaxpearls are oddly shaped.

1) if you insert the tampon correctly (follow the instructions on the label of the box), then it shouldn't be uncomfortable. it might feel weird your first couple of times, but after you get used to it, you shouldn't even feel it.(but don't forget to change it every 4-8 hours!)
2)playtex gentle glide for your first times. they are easy to get in.
3)it may be tricky at first, i had to try a dozen times before i got it right. but once you get it, you get it. just make sure you do exactly what you're supposed to.
4)tampons are SO much better. in pads i feel completely useless. i can't do anything active because i get embarassed that it might be showing. plus they leak a whole lot easier. tampons are great because no one knows they're there and they are way more sanitary and comfortable for me.

here's a helpful website that helped me:
http://www.youngwomenshealth.org/tampon....

it may be uncomfortalbe, but it doesn't hurt, and you shouldn't feel it, or else you put it in wrong. i used tampax compak when i first started using them. they are small in size, made for first time users. it's easy to use one once you get the hang of it, although you may want to use a panty liner for back up, in case it leaks a little bit. you should be fine using them while swimming though. hope that helps. :)

tampons.playtex gentle glide.
it may hurt your first time if you don't know how to put it in but its not very severe pain at all. my friend said she read the manual thing on how to put it in so maybe try that.
