I just had an IUD placed about 2 hours ago. I, like you, have no kids. Therefore, the cervix isn't going to be as "stretchy" as those who have had kids. From what I've heard, the IUD is a lifesaver and it's great for those people, like myself, who forget to take the pill all the time. I've heard good things about the periods being "lighter," (or none at all), though it takes some time for that to come to a plateau and even out. Also, it's so convienent due to how long you're able to leave the device in your body. I got the Mirena so mine will be in until 2013. The only thing I would advise is to take 1000mg of Ibuprofen about 45 mins-1hr before the procedure. The procedure only takes about 15 minutes but it makes you cramp so bad and makes your stomach feel like it's tied in 5,000 knots. Otherwise, take the rest of the day off to relax and lay around. Good luck if you chose to go through with it. It's hard to say that I'm happy with it because I'm cramping really bad right now! lol :(
