What exactly happens in a pap smeer test?!

Question: Hey i had my first pap test not long ago and i was really scared! but its not as bad as you think :) You can go to any clinic and ask for a nurse if you wish, they are very nice about the whole thing as they do it on a daily basis and it only takes a few min to do. you just go in talk to them and then hop up on the table, they close the curtain for privacy and you remove you nickers, they insert a spectrim and then a little brush to remove some cells and then its all done. They send the cells away to get tested and can let you know if anything is abnormal. this test is the only way you can prevent abnormal cells from turning into cancer so it is very important!! it could save your life. you have it done once you start having sex. It dosnt hurt :)

You put up your legs, they stick a little metal thing in followed by a q-tip like thing. They smear the q-tip around inside. Then they pull out the q-tip followed by the metal thing and you're all done. It's nothing major.

the pap smear's process is like the first responder described.

the purpose: the q-tip scrapes off cells from your vaginal wall and then is sent to a lab and put on all sorts of tests. this is to check for signs of infection and/or early indicators of cancer.

make sure you have the pap smear annually. cervical cancer is curable only if it's detected early, hence you take the pap yearly.
