Anyone taken dianette before??!

Question: 16 yr old daughter has been prescribed it as a short term help!!
the only thing that worrys her a bit is weight gain!??!
is this pill any good?
ps
we know about the higher risk of blood clotting but she has an appointment being sent to her to see the dermatologist
so hopefully she will not need to take dianette long term
xx

Your not meant to take dianette for long term anyway. I was on dianette for 6 months 4 years ago and it really improved my skin and was an effective contraception (granted the end of this 6 months I was on roaccutane too).

I am on it again now due to some more outbreaks for another 6 months and then i'll change it again. My skin has improved this time around, and I'm not using another medication other than an oil-free moisturiser and oil free make-up.

I did not put on weight the last time I used it and I have not now (and I'm on my last of 6 packets). Each pill affects each person differently so without trying it she will never know. I mean it might not even improve her skin, but if she was as desperate as I was in improving my skin, you'll try anything!!

Hi, I was prescribed Dianette when I was 13 to sort out a hormone imbalance. I took it till I was 19 with no problems.

It is the mildest form of contraceptive pill, but if your daughter has worries she should talk them through with the doctor.

I have a family history of thrombosis caused by the pill and I did not have any problems so I am sure with the right care and supervision everything will be fine for your daughter.

As for weight gain, it's not inevitable, but perhaps you should just suggest she monitor her weight when she starts the pill and if she gains she could again discuss this with the doc for the best course of action.

Hope this helps :)

Not everybody gains weight on the pill. If she's worried though then she can follow a diet or up her exercise a bit, but she shouldn't need to do a lot of that unless she actually notices a weight gain.

Pills work differently for different people, and I'm not sure what she is being prescribed Dianette for - acne? It does work for many women. And you can go back to your doctor and ask to change pills at any time if she's not happy (although it usually takes 3 months to start working properly and for side effects to go).

Dianette was excellent for me...! it cleared up my skin and it kept my weight down..i was only on it for 9 months....doctors dont like to prescribe it for too long as it is quite strong in dosage!

Been taking it for 3.5 years, no weight gain whatsoever, no bad side effects whatsoever. Hence why I am on it, its the right pill for me and i've had no bad effects at all that often come with pills.
