I have suffered with sleeping problems for years! There are SOOOO many factors related to this. Age, diet, exercise, stress level, sleeping conditions (bed, room temperature, darkness), and prescription medications are all things that can and will affect your sleep.

You have to ask yourself about the factors I listed above. Do you eat healthy? If you consume a lot of sugar or yeast, even in whole foods, it can effect your sleeping and cause problems.

Do you exercise? If so, GREAT! And if not, try it, but make sure that you don't do it in the evening. You should be done exercising no later than 3 hours before bed.

Are you stressed out? When I was in college, my mind would be running a mile a minute when I tired to fall asleep. I would just worry and and stress about all the stuff I had to do and I couldn't fall asleep. If that's the case, try meditation or reading before bed.

You should be sleeping in a comfortable, quiet, dark, cool room. I use a fan to drown out any background noise, and you can try wearing an eye mask if it's not dark enough.

I would NEVER recommend sleeping pills. The side effects are just not worth it. Even herbal supplements for sleeping can be addictive becuase if you KNOW you're going to get a good night's sleep by using it, it's really hard to stop using it.

You can also try things like taking a hot, relaxing shower before bed. Drink some Chamomille or SleepyTime tea. (SleepyTime tea actually has Valerian Root in it, which is an herbal supplement to help you relax/sleep. I used Valerian Root for a week or so and it did work, but I wouldn't recommend anything like that for more than a week or so.)

Most importantly, and I know it's hard, but don't over-think it! Don't go to bed thinking, "Omg, this is so horrible, I can never fall asleep, I'm going to be miserably tired and tossing and turning all night...blah!" If you go into it with that attitude, then you're setting yourself up for failure and you will end up stressing yourself out, and then you WILL be up all night. You'd be surprised how much your attitude can play a role in sleeping.

The thing that really worked best for me was a healthy diet and exercise. Even if you just try to cut down on salts and sugars, drink plenty of water (but stop drinking about an hour or two before bed obviously) and just try to get in a little exercise each day even if it's just a walk. It will make a big difference. Just relax! And if all else fails, count sheep!

:-) Good luck and goodnight!

go to bed at 830

take sleeping pills

you need to do something relaxing before bed, take a bath, read a book, drink decaffeinated tea, try lavender scented lotion, I know that helps people calm down and relax. Maybe watch a calm TV show while you lay in bed and set the sleep timer, if it goes off before your a sleep, leave it off, and hopefully you will just fall a sleep!

go to sleep at 7

go to bed 30 mins then you usually do, and turn off your tv and stuff and listen to like 'rain sounds' or somthing.

BENEDRYL!!! it makes everything better.....

chamomile tea, hot bath and some soft music before you go to bed. it works for me!

Perhaps you should wake up earlier. Sure it will be hard at first but when you start getting in the mood of it then u will be tired before you go to bed and refreshed in the morning but keep waking up earlier. About 4 hours before bed check the labels of your food or drinks and make sure they have low sugar levels. Junk food and soda or even regular food u think is ok fuels u up to be awake. try some tea or some warm milk and stay as relaxed as possible 3 hours before bed i hoped i helped!

just start relaxing before you go to bed ways to do this is drink tea or warm milk meditating. also it helps to write things down before you go to bed. do not go to bed with a busy mind. also music might help. and if that does not help you might want to take a warm bath.

some natural herbs u can take to help u sleep are valerian and passionflower, both work very well
things you can do to help sleep, get urself in a routine, do the same thing before bed every night...ur body will start to realize what its supposed to be doing, hot bath, read abook, dont watch tv before bed or do anything stimulating, get ur body in a routine
if u cant fall asleep after 15 mins get up and do something else for a while and then try again
wake up at the same time every day
make sure ur getting exercise during the day and a healthy diet
cut out all caffiene for a week and see if that makes a difference, then only have caffiene during the day, never in the evening
listen to relaxing music, use guided imagery, progressive muscle relaxation, try yoga before bed, tai chi, anything calming and soothing
use lavender oil in teh bath and sprinkle some on ur pillow
make sure ur room is not too hot and not too cold, and ur bed is clean and comfortable
if ur room is cluttered, clear it out, it should be a place for solely rest and relaxation, no clutter

i turn off the t.v because that keeps me awake.
sometimes i drink milk before bed.
i always have to fall asleep by listening to my ipod.

sleeping is a habitual thing, you need to establish a pattern of habit that allows you to fall asleep easily. To that end, you must set aside 30 to 45 minutes before you go to bed for quiet contemplation. No TV, no computer, no radio, no electronics of any kind. Read a good book, or simply meditate on your day if you want, but be calm quiet and simply relax. Then after that time, go to bed. It will take about a week to establish the pattern, but you will find that you sleep much better.
If after a week you find you are still having problems, you may have a sleep disorder and it would be worth consulting your doctor for a sleep study.

10 points for the best answer eh?
You realize no matter what, if you give them 1 star or 5, the person you choose for best answer is still going to get 10 points.

A glass of wine or two should do the trick. Don't get drunk, but a couple drinks may do the trick. Avoid eating before bed because your body doesn't process fat the same way, and it will end up on your thighs.

i take a warm bath. i usually eat alot before bed, being full makes me tired. nothing with sugar though it'll keep you up. i just lay in bed and listen to damien rice extremely low so i can almost not hear it. oh and i also dress warm . i no when i think alot before i sleep i am up all night. try to clear your mind and if you have alot on your mind i go through the alphabet and think of a song for each letter. it gets my mind off things and makes me tired real fast. good luck :]

do more energy-hog stuff in the day so u have no energy by the time u get home

Try to be active or get more exercise for at least half an hour, it will clear your mind and get it working in the proper order and you will be tired enough when its time for bed.
Try not to eat or drink too much before bed, this will be unsettling for your stomach and you wont be able to sleep properly.
Taking a warm bath before bed is also helpful and relaxing. Avoid sleep medications as long as possible unless things get really bad and you can't sleep or stay asleep. You can get dependent on them. Hope this helps =]

You are putting a lot of stress on yourself about sleeping. I'm not a good sleeper as well. A good rule is that you only use your bed for sleeping(and sex) but not for watching TV, reading or anything else. Your brain needs to get used to thinking that it's time to relax and sleep and not to concentrate on other things. Exercising in the afternoon makes me more tired as well. I have found that if I still cant fall asleep when all lights are out open a blind so that you can see outside and just look into the night at stars, trees etc and concentrate on your breathing. Sounds dumb but it has
worked for me. I hope it works for you.

A very natural sleep aid - warm milk until it just starts to form a skin. (There's a chemical change at that point.) Add some honey for taste if you like. Relax, read a boring book or watch a boring TV show while you drink the milk.

Then go to sleep in a dark, cool quiet room. If you're any good at it, let your imagination go - you're a princess in a far-away land, you're fabulously wealthy, you're ... wherever your imagination takes you. You'll probably fall asleep just as you get to the good part.

hmm..well if this happens a lot, maybe you should talk to a doctor about it, maybe you have insomnia? Here's a link that explains it: http://womenshealth.gov/faq/insomnia.htm
Or you could just try going to sleep extra early like 8 or something. Also try drinking some warm milk before you go to sleep, that's supposed to help you sleep. and try not sitting near bright light or not watching tv an hour or so before you go to bed because the light tricks your mind into thinking you're still awake or something (i read that somewhere, so not sure if thats accurate). Also the scent of lavender is supposed to help you sleep.
Well hope that was helpful :)
