I would say towels. But just because i am quite young and not tryed a tampon yet. Although people say that tampon is more easy and comfortable and once you get used to them you feel more confident and better in yourself.

Well, with sanitary napkins you don't have to worry about Toxic Shock Syndrome. That's one reason you could go with pads. They sometimes have you feeling uncomfortable but you can try different brands, sizes and shapes until you find the one that is best for you. Tampons are good for certain situations. But as far as which one is best.....Tampons are more effective but pads are safer health wise.
Try both and see what is better for you. (=

Tampons - they are just cleaner imo.
Who wants a pad full of blood against you all day long? Not me that is for sure.
I would alternate between the two. Use unscented tampons. tamps when you are out, pads at home
if u ask me tampond cuz u can swim and alot of other stuff with them!!! but with pad on in the pool u will have i blood tral sweety!!
