Just got an IUD placed today and I'm cramping very bad.?!
Question: I had it placed about 9 hours ago. I'm a nurse so I know my limitations with meds - I've taken 1500mg Tylenol, 1200mg of Ibuprofen and two midols. Nothing has really touched the cramping. It was placed correctly, etc. I'm supposed to "deal" with the cramping for a few days. Any ideas or suggestions as to what has worked in the past. I'm going to take some Ibuprofen before I go to bed. Warm packs, etc?

Please talk to your clinician.
You can expect cramping and pain. Please make sure you aren't running a fever, if you are, you need to call your clinician right away.
Your clinician can prescribe a muscle relaxer to help with the cramping as well as a painkiller like lortab.
It is normal to experience cramping and pain, especially if you haven't had children.
Good luck.
I know this is a little late after the fact.... but yes, the warm packs helped a lot. It even helped when my man rubbed my belly and lower back. Just lots of warmth and rubbing did it for me. Pain meds don't work for either.
