Please help me figure out which specialist(doctor) to go to?!

Question: I have recurring inner thigh and groin bumps ( more or less on the same places) and I told the NP that tended to me when I went my pap smear last year(feb 07) and she said it was ingrown hairs(something I expected to hear since this all started to happen after I shaved down there for the first time). Anyway, I haven't yet been for my pap smear this year and was wondering whether going to an Ob/Gyn would do for both my reasons for going...or do I need to make a separate appt. with a dermatologist for my recurring bump problem?

Thanks much!

your recurring bumps are likely localized staph infections and a month long course of staph specific antibiotic will clear up your problem, (any doctor can order this for you) but you need to stop shaving down there. Staph lives on our skin, and you just keep reinfecting your self when you shave.

Go to your Ob/Gyn first, maybe they can prescribe you something. If not, they'll tell you to go to a dermatologist.

Dermatologist most likely.

A Ob/gyn should be able to help you with both, but if you're not satisfied with their answer then you should go to a dermatolgist, but I don't think that would be necessary.
