Answers: When is it normal for a girl to get her first period, my niece is wondering but I didn't get mine until I was 17

i was 11 but i think average is 10-16 the later the better in my opinion

Not a lunch time please, I WAS going to have a bloody mary after my meal

The average age of menarche is about 12 years old.

Getting your first period at 17 is pretty late, but not abnormal, it's known as primary amenorrhea, it's often related to family - e.g. if a mother started her periods at around 15 then her daughter will also start to get her periods around 15 too. Lifestyle and nutrition can also be factors, as too can fertility problems, and even environment can have an affect due to hormone-changing chemicals in our environment.

Wikipedia's entry on menarche says that for US girls, but the same is true of girls in the UK, the Wikipedia page also has some information about the fact girls are reaching menarche at a younger and younger age - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menarche

As for 'normal', there is no such thing, but if a girl doesn't get her first period by the age of 16 years old it can be a cause for concern, there have been girls as young as 3 years old getting their first period (see youngest mother in the world, Lina Medina, for an interesting fact - http://www.snopes.com/pregnant/medina.as... )

Its natures decision, when your body is ready...

Anywhere from 10-17. It varies depending on the person.

it's different for every woman, but the average is 12 or 13

12...13 is the usual age

17 is quite old...depends on ur body

11 is when I started, my aunt started at 9

usually between 13-16. If you havent started by 17-18,then its wise to seek a doctor.

If the person is anorexic, then it can delay it big time

well to tell you the truth these days girls get it around 8-16 years of age, you were a late bloomer but dont worry it comes when it comes

I started when I was 11. It was horrible. My mum didn't have hers till she was 18 but she is a twin and has a very petite figure and is extremely thin. I think its normal for girls to have their first period anytime between 13 and 16 but puberty can start at the age of 10!

It's different for every girl. Some as young as 8, some as old as 18. If you haven't had it by 18 though you may want to go to a doctor so they can start it for you. It's common to be around the same age your mother was when she got her period.

13 and up! :)

It really depends on the girl, I spotted a few times when I was 12 and 13. But I didn't really get a full blown period until I was 15 or 16. I would also ask a doctor about it.

Im 30 years old and never got my first period until i was 23!!! and only had 3 since... !!!!!

Anywhere between 9 and 15 is generally accepted as normal, although there are people who've had there periods beyond that range. (the youngest was a Girl named Lima Medina in Peru who was pregnant at 5 years 7 months, so don't ask me what age she got her periods at). 17 is actually considered a bit on the later side, but can be accounted for due to illnesses, low nutrition etc.

anytime between 10 and 17 i think

most girls usually start when they are about 13-14 though

there is no certain time to start. usually 10-16 but its just whenever it happens..

It really depends on the girl & her genetics. If all her family got theres late then soo will she. But i think most ppl get it 11-12 years old.

Hope that helps!

Usually runs in the family so at what age you, her mum, nan and aunties started. But average is 12-16 but can be as young as 8. Talk to all female relatives and take a mean. Also look out for other tell tale puberty signs like discharge, breasts developing, mood swings ect as these are a good indication of periods starting. Its good she can talk to you about these things and you're there for her.

about 13-17 is normal but people get their first period as young as 11 or as old as 19. i started just before my 14th birthday.

Its up to nature to decide I'm affraid. On average it happens between the ages of 12-16. It can happen sooner and it can happen later. Speaking from experience the longer she is without it the better in my opinion.

it varies for every girl.

I started mine when i was 11 years old. I thought it was completely normal though. Tell your neice to ask her mum and she will probably start about the time when her mum started hers. most people start between the age of 8-18. An incredible difference but every person is different.
If she needs anymore help check out
www.beinggirl.co.uk Don't worry they can start at anytime between 8-18! Hope this helped!

it depends on the person. sometime bigger people or people whos body has matured fast will get theres earlier. it will come when her body is ready

the average is 12 but anywhere between 8 and 18
