Pregnacy and Gaining Weight!!! Please answer ladies and peferably Mothers...?!

Question: Okay I'm not sexist in anyway, I was just wondering, why is alot of weight gained during pregnacy?
I just read an article saying depending on the person current health during pregnancy they only need to 100-300 more calories, and that the excess weight just is a phycological thing were some people think its okay to eat w/e just because they are pregnate. I read another article saying the opposite. Which do I belive?

i think, that if pregnancy is done well - and healthily, that it actually SHOULD be a very healthy time of your life

i lost 20 pounds during my pregnancy, mostly because i became so health concious. i exercised and did NOT over-eat, and i had an incredibly healthy pregnancy. i am very blessed to have lost weight, because no, that doesnt happen with most women - but it is more of a choice than anything. even if its a subconcious choice.

it is so frequently mispercieved that women will gain weight, that i just assume its normal ---- wait, it IS normal to gain weight - the weight gain that im referring to is the mothers weight before pregnancy, and after birth - they walk into pregnancy thinking they are already going to 'get fat' so they dont even do what is necessary to not do that.

not everyone though, there are a lot of women who understand that pregnancy should be a healthy time, its really all in what mentality you choose to have

I think that you actually need to gain 25-30lbs for the baby, the fluid, the sac, etc. Other than that, you don't need to gain more. As for if you do or not, that decision is left up to the pregnant person. And if you're a husband, I'd advise you don't say anything to her about it.

Well, first of all there is a person growing inside of a woman.

Next, it really does depend. I have a friend who has trouble gaining weight. Some women crave things that are fattening and don't move around much.

Some women have a ton of energy and work out a lot.

I am 5ft tall and gained 52 pounds with my pregnancy! Much of the weight is water weight. 30 pounds to be exact. I lost that immedietly. But I had to work hard to lose the rest and I did. So, lots of it is water weight and yes, lots of it for me was food because I stopped caring about my food intake and telling myself I will workout and eat less when the baby was born. I think a lot of mom-to be do that.

But men do it too!!!

Maybe you do not need to gain a lot of weight. The doc will tell a woman she should gain about 35 pounds. Most gain at least that amount. But try being a pregnant woman. You are hungry ALL the time!!! Of course you are going to gain weight.

well alot of it is fluids , after i had my son i lost 30lbs , within days , i was so shocked ..i gained 50 lbs during my whole pregnancy ..the other 20lbs was fromover eating because when your pregnany your hormones go wild and hormones always make you feel a flase hunger ..

BEING SEXIST IS A SIN IN THE EYES OF THE LORD.

GAINING WEIGHT DURING PREGNANCY IS A SIN IN THE EYES OF THE LORD.

READING ARTICLES IS A SIN IN THE EYES OF THE LORD.

HAVING PREMARITAL SEX IS A SIN IN THE EYES OF THE LORD.

Well, think about it, dear. That women's hormones are raging like a wild bull. She has to be able to feed herself, and her child[ren] that are growing in her stomach. Just think about when your extremely hungry, and you eat a ton of random food until your full. Now imagine eating all that food, and still feeling hungry because now you have another mouth to feed. It is not okay for women to eat whatever because certain things can be bad for the baby. If you eat too much sugars, or not enough, it could be dangerous. That is why they need a balanced diet along with a few snacks. Not only do they have to feed two bodies normally, but their body needs to grow [Meaning the babies, and theirs] because their stomach has to stretch.

Ok let me tell u this way. Yeah eating alot is fun when your pregnant....I loved it . But loosing in stink. I have two little girls. With my first I gained 75 pounds, easily. If it was fried or chocolate I ate it. And that was miserable to loose. With my second I smartened up, I only gained 20 pounds, 9.6 of it was just baby. So just remember everything that goes in, is gonna stay in...wether its on your hips or your gut or your butt.

I mean, if your having a craving . Go for it. Eat that ice cream. Just stop before the whole half gallon is gone. Trust me youll thank me in the end.

every woman is different, but a new life is forming in the mother's womb, and whether she eats extra calories to gain weight or not, the baby, it's new environment, the formation of milk ducts in the breasts and the increase in blood create new mass and will cause the woman to weigh more than before she was pregnant.

but gaining weight when eating is completely scientific. if you eat 3500 calories a week more than usual you will gain a pound, if you exercise, eat fewer calories within a week - enough to amount to 3500 calories, you will lose a pound.
