Too young for a ob/gyn visit?!

Question: I just thought this was a question since I need to visit one. I recently came by a situation, well actually I've had the situation for a while but my mom has been refusing to take me for a gyn visit and I don't know why. I was open enough to tell her about it, but she still doesn't want to take me. So I'm wondering if there's a way to go myself (I am 17 years old) and if there's any other requirements. Does anyone know? Thanks!

17 isnt too old if you are having sex.
planned parenthood is great.
you just go and they give you all the forms to fill out - way less embarassing than someone personally asking you all the details of your menstrual history, sex habits...etc
it is reasonably priced or even free and really caters to young people and their needs.
and at planned parenthood, you can always go without a parent (that's the reason they opened in the first place)

Most doctors will require parental permission to treat you at the age of 17. However, if you go to Planned Parenthood, they will provide gynecological services to someone who is 17.

If anything... call and ask your doctor or a local ob/gyn

You may be able to go yourself...call the OBGYN office and ask...it cannot hurt to try...Tell them your situation...

I don't think there is a problem in going to yourself. The only requirement is money with which to pay the bill.

You actually have some time to go unless you are sexually active (which is perhaps what your mother is worried about) or if you have a problem. But if you need to go and she won't take you, just bring money.

There aren't any requirements. But generally people see a pediatritian until the age of 18. Have you asked your mom why she doesn't want you to see an ob/gyn?

Planned Parenthood.

If this is a health risk then you need to use whatever means needed to be checked out.

You should visit an ob/gyn as soon as you become sexually active or at least by the time you're 18. If your mom doesn't want to take you, look up a planned parenthood in your area. They keep everything confidential, even from your parents if you're underage. The cost is very cheap or free. I think the website is plannedparenthood.org

Yes you're old enough to go on your own. If you have access to your moms health insurance, even if you don't they have free clinics in every neighborhood. Especially if you have uhhh a situation by all means go. If you continue to wait there's no telling what it could turn into. I think alot of mothers should stop being in denial about things like this. I think she's just afraid of what she may hear about her daughter having sex. At least your smart enough to know you need to go. So GO.

You are smart to be thinking so maturely about your health. Yes, you can go to your public health office. They can see you without parental permission. They can also provide you with birth control and education about sex and female stuff. You can use insurance to pay or they will bill you based on your ability to pay. For many people that is nothing at all, but you can still get the services you need.

You are able to go in by yourself, but your mom has to check you in since you're still technically a minor.

Try your family physician first..ask him/her to send to one..or perhaps ask him/her to treat you..at 17 if you are going to take responsibility for this then it is yours to take..
On the other hand I as a mother i would have taken you.

My only visit to a gynecologist was when I was 15.
You should be able to go by yourself if you can pay for it.

A lot of the time your GP will be able to take care of things, it may be easier to get an appointment with your normal doctor.
