What are the odds of getting pregnant while on the birth control shot?!

Question: I was on a birth control shot for about five years and I NEVER had any pregnancy scares. Ever. You didn't say how long you have been or if you are on it ... but longevity does help. The failure rate for the shot is extremely minimal, but again you didn't say how long you've been on it. I remember my GYN telling me that for the first few months (as with any new form of birth control) it's a good idea to use a back up method (such as condoms) while your body adjusts to the birth control, other than that you should be fine. It's 99.9% accurate with preventing pregnancy if I do recall correctly.

But do be SURE to go in for the next shot in that 2-3 week window that the nurse tells you to so that the hormone levels stay pretty much equal in your system and it's not like you have to stay over again each time you go for the new shot. It's like refilling before you're out.

Also, after ceasing the shot, conception can be delayed for up to a year in some cases because of the built up level of the chemical in your body. Just fyi.

Take care. :)

99.9 percent. Use condoms too if you're still worried.

Close to zero.

Extremely minimal. However if you're inconsistent with taking your pills, you will get pregnant. This happened to a friend of mine because she kept forgetting to take her pills. However, she has a beautiful daughter today and can't imagine life without her.

my sister in law claims it just happened to her. but from what she said, the IUD slipped from position or something. who knows.

The odds are pretty good.... well they have been for me

It depends on how long you have been on the shot. They recommend that you use a back up method for the first three to six months because the shot will prevent you from getting your period and therefore if you do wind up pregnant you would never know. Statistics wise you should be fine on the shot. It is actually less likely to get pregnant on the shot, however it does happen so I would still try and stay away from your ovulation times just to be 100% safe.

1 in a million or 99.9 percent it depents how much shots u get

I was on it for abotu 3 years and had no problems. It's much more effective than the pills, patches, and most anything else out there. Not sure about IUD's. Depo has about a 99% foolproof rate, although there's always that 1% that gets pregnant. It's recommended when you first start out on the shot to use alternative methods of BC (condoms) for the first few months until it's really in your system, after that, no worries.
