Symptoms... dizziness, vomiting, racing heart, feeling faint....?!

Question: Just wanting to see if anyone may know.... My mother has had 4 or 5 episodes in the past year where she will just all of a sudden start getting dizzy, feeling like she is going to pass out, vomiting, her heart will start racing, and just feeling awful. It usually lasts only an hour or so with the dizziness continuing. She is 47 years old. The last time it happened and she went to the ER, afraid it could be her heart, the doctor told her it was an inner ear infection (the hospital isn't the most reputable around). She had another one this morning and is at the moment on her way to a different hospital (my sister took her). These episodes are really scary considering my mother is one of those people who absolutely refuse to go to a doctor but these are bad enough that this is the second time she has went for them.... Does anyone know anything that it may be? She is perfectly healthy otherwise, hardly ever sick with more than a cold or something......

What you are describing sounds a lot like panic attacks. They are both psychological and physiological...and can be absolutely terrifying to the person experiencing them. The symptoms come on suddenly and there is an intense feeling of dread, accompanied by physical sensations like what you are talking about.

It is possible that it is something else...and a complete physical would be a good idea (if you can talk her into it). I am not a doctor or mental health professional, but I do live with psych problems and have done a gret deal of research. To me, it really sounds like you are describing panic disorder.
Here is a prettty good description of it, from a reputable source.

Sounds to me like she is having anxiety attacks. But I am not a doctor.

Get back to the ER fast.

I agree...I think its panic attacks.
