So what is this thick, white, smelly discharge?!

Question: Ok so for the past 4 months I would say I've been having this discharge from my vagina. At first it was clear and thin and I would guess normal.....now it is like thick, white, and smelly....it doesn't itch and I'm not having any abdominal pains....what do you think it could be?
Also is it something I HAVE to go to the doctor for or can I get it at like a CVS or rite-aid because I don't think its normal.

heyy i didnt read all the answers people gave you but i had the same exact thing and i recently got treated for it. it's a bacterial infection (common in women) and you just need to go to planned parenthood (hopefully theres one around u) and they give you an exam and they will give you 4 pills called "metronidazole" or something and you just take those 4 pills and mine just went away 2 days ago and now it's odor free and my discharge is back to normal. if u do follow my lead, dont drink alcohol for atleast 5 days or you will get very sick.. good luck!

Sounds like a yeast infection and you can get treatments for it at walmart. Why would you go for four months like this?

i have never had a yeast infection but that is what it sounds like, only i think those are itchy. Anyways only a doctor can be certain, good luck and take care

Get to the doctor ASAP sister. STD's can make you infertile.

Sounds like a yeast infection. If you've never had one before go to the doctor. You can treat it with monistat from CVS.

Could be your body is changing or it could be yeast or it could be std.

I should let you know I had a yeast infection that never itched for about 1 year before it finally turned green. I had no clue. I thought it was just my body changing.

probably a yeast infection

Go to the doctor.

Go to your doctor! You can't treat it till you know what it is. Sounds like trichomoniasis to me...but I'm no doctor. You need a prescription. Don't be scared to ask for a ride to the doctor. Your health is more important. Besides, whatever it is could lead to infertility, cervical cancer, who knows what else?

get a deusch cleaning and vagisil.

Its either a yeast infection or clap, gonoreha, or something else either way y wud u wait so long to get it checked thats nasty. EWWW.

Babe, go to the doctor, you've obviously got some sort of infection or possibly STD. Either way, you really want to get it fixed ASAP.

I dont know may be a yeast infection. Or just an infection i think you can get treatment at like CVS or some place like that. But im not sure. Why dont you call your doctor?

Could be a yeast infection, could be something else. The best thing to do would be to go to the doctor to be sure. Attempting to diagnose and treat yourself isn't the best idea. Yes, you could go all the way to the doctor and find out it's a simple yeast infection. But if it's not a simple yeast infection, the sooner you get to the doctor, the better.

its probably a yeast infection. Maybe you should go to the doctor because its been going on for a while. And it aint normal, but it sounds like a yeast infection, but i woulnt take nothing until you r sure Jus go to your local health department

maybe thrush ring a chemist and ask to see what they say and ask what they would reccomend

Hi Jen, you DON'T have a yeast infection! When a woman has a yeast infection, there is no bad smell to it but there is, usually, severe itching. It sounds like you have bacterial vaginosis (BV) because it causes a thick, white, foul smelling discharge. It's not considered an STD because many non-sexually active women suffer from it. It's caused by an unbalance of the friendly flora in the vagina. Go to your gynecologist and she'll examine you and prescribe an antibiotic called metronidazole. Unfortunately, alot of women who get BV will suffer from reoccurrences.

This should help you decide.

Once you start puberty a white and/or clear, non-foul smelling discharge (mucous) is normal. The vagina is self-cleaning. You will also have your own 'scent' (musky) and it will smell stronger to you than to others. This same discharge increases the closer you get to ovulation and when you are sexually aroused. Trust me, you don't ever want it to go away.

Different Types of Discharge:

White: Thick, white discharge is common at the beginning and end of your cycle. Normal white discharge is not accompanied by itching. If itching is present, thick white discharge can indicate a yeast infection.

Clear and stretchy: This is "fertile" mucous and means you are ovulating.

Clear and watery: This occurs at different times of your cycle and can be particularly heavy after exercising.

Yellow or Green: May indicate an infection, especially if thick or clumpy like cottage cheese or has a foul odor.

Brown: May happen right after periods, and is just "cleaning out" your vagina. Old blood looks brown.

Different types of infections:

Signs of yeast infections:
White, cottage cheese-like discharge
Swelling and pain around the vulva
Intense itching

Signs of bacterial vaginosis:
A white, gray or yellowish vaginal discharge
A fishy odor that is strongest after sex or after washing with soap
Itching or burning
Slight redness and swelling of the vagina or vulva

Signs of trichomoniasis
A watery, yellowish or greenish bubbly discharge
An unpleasant odor
Pain and itching when urinating
Most apparent after your period

its best to go to a Dr and get it checked out,

you might have a std or it could be some type of yeast. i had a white thick discharge and my doctory told me it was some type of yeast. child go to your doctor and get that seen about. the more you wait the worst it can get.

sounds like trich or bv to me. you definitely need to see a doctor. the abdominal pains could mean it has moved up the cervix.
