Anyone had a colposcopy? just wondering whats its like?Im having one done next m!

Question: I've had two, and I have to have another. They use a speculum, just like in a pap smear, and take a qtip with vinegar and wipe your cervix. Then she uses a light and microscope to look at the area. She will use a long metal instrument to get endocervical cells (from the hole in the cervix) but swabbing it like a pap smear. This is uncomfortable and will feel like period cramps--but really only while she's doing it and a minute after (and it only takes like ten seconds to swab). You can take ibuprofen an hour before to help with the cramps. If she sees anything else, she will take "punch biopsies" with an instrument--just little tiny pieces of tissue from the cervix the size of a pencil eraser. This barely hurts, a quick lite pinch (I honestly thought the first part cramping hurt more). She might not see anything. After it's done, she may put long sticks to just touch up some bleeding (just like pin pricks, nothing big) that look like matches (called silver nitrate sticks) or something called monsels which looks like mustard (but when mixed with blood looks like black sand, so don't get freaked if you wear a pad for a day after and you see that). Just take it easy the rest of the day, no running marathons--stay home and give yourself a manicure/pedicure and catch up on soaps! :)

I had one. The doc opens you up with a speculum and takes a tiny sample of your cervix. It was uncomfortable and very slightly painful, but I hate anything touching my cervix.

The person below me is not too bright. It's sad that you've had many but don't know the correct term for the procedure you had. She said COLPOSCOPY. That's a biopsy of the cervix. Geez.

when they tell you to cough, cough really hard it will hurt a lot less

i had one..it wasnt that bad..i mean it was uncomfortable, but definitely bearable. The only thing that kinda weirded me out was they put some kind of medicine or something in there after they finish and it discharges a blackish color. it also feels weird, but dont be nervous, youll be fine!
