I love the shot. I was on the pill then on the shot for almost three years then back to the pill and now i'm switching back to the shot cause i like it way more than the pill.
The shot (depo) won't help prevent acne (it won't cause it though) and yes there is a little water-weight gain but you get that with the pill too. I personally like it in the hip muscle right above the butt because it hurts a lot less. depo has progesterone but not estrogen whereas most pills (but not all) have both. That is why it doesn't prevent acne (estrogen prevents acne). Depo is more effective than the pill (especially because you don't miss doses like you might on the pill). You can always try to shot and if you don't like it you can switch back. Oh and the best thing about depo is that you don't get your period. it's AWESOME.

umm they can do it in a couple of places in the arm or butt ... they say the butt works better ... its really good if its the depo...thats what i had its every three months it was good but im fat and i heard that it causes weight gain so i stopped but other than that its alll good.

Depo-Provara...called "depo". It is highly effective and usually injected in the butt cheek, only hurts a day or two. Sounds ok so far, BUT do some more research. Most women I know who have had it HATE it. I HATED it. I bled almost everyday for the first three months. FIgured I'd come that far and try for three more (cuz the docs say that within the first 6 months you usually stop having periods altogether). Didn't happen for me. I had three injections for a total of nine months; bled nearly the whole time or spotted. I didn't get pregnant, but I had no sex drive, was hormonal, and did I mention, I was always bleeding? Good luck finding a solution, but I'd look further.
