Yes, it's normal, as long as you can get it back up at the proper time. I'm not male, but hubby goes either way, depending on who got up and why. Cigarettes can decrease your potency as well as your ability to keep up with the action, to put it nicely.

If she gets up to leave for a few minutes, of coarse you are going to get soft, you are losing the stimulation that keeps you hard...Just as if you got hard looking at porn and a few minutes later you stop and go do something else. If you want to stay hard till she comes bac, you should manually stimulate yourself till she gets back, not try to make yourself come but just a little rubbing every minute or so when u start to get soft....cigarettes have not been proven to make you less active but can cause you to easily get winded
