One A Day Women's vitamins....does it work?!

Question: I'm thinking about buying One A Day Women's vitamins but I don't know if it does help during a woman's menstruation. I feel terrible everytime I get my period with all the dizziness, weakness, and feeling sick with headache and all. I just bought Calcium (1,000 mg) with Magnesium (500mg) supplement the other day to be taken daily. I heard that this is a must for women over 35 (Accdg. to Oprah's Dr. Oz). With Calcium-Magnesium supplement, will it be too much if I take One a day Women's too? For those who have been taking One a Day Women's already, do you feel a lot better especially when you're having your period? I'm tired of getting sick every month! Please help.

For me personally, taking vitamins during my period made no difference as to how I was feeling. Talk to your doctor about this matter & about taking the C-M supplements that Dr. Oz talked about on Oprah. Have your doctor test you for anemia also. If you are a bit anemic, you'll be put on Iron tablets that are sold otc. That may be why you're not feeling well during your periods, due to blood loss. Just a thought!

I find that taking a vitamin makes me feel better every day; I get nutrients that I don't get through my regular diet. I've taken the same kind as you are considering. I think the vitamins would definitely help overall, especially during your period.

I would contact a doctor about vitamins and supplements. The vitamins you're referring to have 100% of pretty much everything you need -- so you'd be taking more than necessary, and that can actually do more harm than good. If you do decide to take in excess, eat foods rich in calcium and magnesium rather than in supplements. Your body can process them more efficiently, and it won't be as harmful as it would taking them in pill form.

Good question.
I have been taking a multi-vitamin for years & yes it does help.
It also helps to exercise, drink plenty of water, eat protein & get plenty of sleep.
As for increasing your calcium while on a multi-vitamin, I don't think thats a good idea, it should be one or the other, unless recommended by your Dr..
Hope this helps.

Quite frankly I have been taking One A Day Women's, Calcium, Magnesium for years and they do nothing for my period symptoms.

You have to take separate meds for that.
