Is this normal during your period?!

Question: I have very frequent bowel movements just before or during my period. Like today, for example, I have had five bowel movements. Then after my period, I get constipated. Is this normal? I know this is kind of a gross question, but I am concerned.

Yes, it's normal for some women. It doesn't happen to every woman. It depends on how sensitive you are to the hormonal changes that your body goes through during your monthly cycle.

During your period, estrogen dominates your body. After your period, estrogen levels lower and progesterone levels start to rise, especially after you ovulate. This change can cause changes in your bowel habits as well.

Yes during your period your body disposes
of all waste,, it is completely normal

Happens to me all the time - which makes me think it's normal....wish I knew the science behind it!

I hear ya, and it is unpleasant. The frequent trips to the bathroom are caused from cramps. I have the same problem. Cereal is one of my favorite snacks, so if you can, try to find raisin bran or mini wheats. If you like yogurt, Activia really works, and it's about the best thing. I thought it was total bunk, but I spent the extra couple of bucks, and I have yet to have a problem. I usually only buy it around that time, start eating it a couple of days before your period is over and it should help out a lot.Take it from me, after having my daughter 5 years ago, it took me forever to figure out what worked. If none of that helps, you may be better off going to your OB and making sure that everything's as it should be.

Oh god yes. I usually cycle between being constipated to having diarrhea when I have my period. It's rough, and it just makes the whole thing a bit more irritating... but it makes me appreciate when I'm not on my period THAT much more! ;)

the same thing happens when i have mine.... so yes it is normal... nothing to worry about

it always happens to me!! its normal
