Try longer/wider pads. I have ALWAYS had this problem... even with the 'plus sized' pads... sometimes I take a panty-liner and cut it in half and put it sort of under the pad in front and back of my actual pad... especially when I sleep, cuz I toss and turn in my sleep. Also wearing two pairs of underwear when you sleep helps save the bedsheets. Sometimes I even change my sheets to my black set for just this reason... it won't show stains. ;)
Try to wear a tampon w/ the pad. Some people just have heavier periods than others. Talk to your dr. birth control pills can lighten periods.
Is your period long or just heavy? If it's longer than 10 days then you must check with your doctor
Yeah, i'd say just get a bigger pad. Also try wearing 2 pairs of underwear and a tampon w/ the pad.
