How can I stop the cravings I get before my period?!

Question: Ok, so about a week or a week and a half before my period, I get these crazzy cravings for food (especially for carbohydrates).... the cravings are usually accompanied with tender breasts and bloating. How can I stop these cravings? Any suggestions?

I doubt they're just going to stop happening, but here are some methods to deal with them:

1. Give in, but in a controlled way. Take out a reasonable serving, put away the rest, and eat slooooowly, chewing each bite thoroughly and really paying attention to it. Most foods are just fine in moderation, and this method helps you enjoy the indulgence without eating too much too fast and feeling icky afterward. Also, you might enjoy it more. It's even possible that your body needs some of what it's craving anyway.

2. Drink plenty of water. This won't actually affect the cravings, but it might fill you up and may help with the bloating. And hey, even if it doesn't do anything else, you're getting more water in your diet. Generally good.

3. Distract yourself. Find something else to occupy your mind and hands until the craving goes away.

Man good question. The same exact thing happens to me.

don't fight it... your body's hormones are thrown out of whack and it is reacting for a reason

just make sure it's not a binge fest

The cravings is because of hormonal imbalance in your body,
either progesteron or estrogen is stimulating your urge to eat more, it is not a big deal as long as you will almost lose the enegry you and fat you gained through monthly cycle but if you are really bothered with it , get on BC pills. But you should first find out which one is suitable for you as they may stimulate your cravings even more.

Another simple way of copping with it , is to try filling up your stomach with vegetables and low calory foods when you feel like eating.

Exercie also will help balancing the hormones and therefore suppressing the cravings.

and finally , if you see you are eating too much you have already become aware , so you can make a balance !!!

yeah if i crave something that much i need to have it and nothing will make the craving go away. give in but don't over-do it.

lol! i wouldnt fight the cravings for food! i love to eat!!!! its the only good part about periods! lol! i would ask ur doc for the best thing cuz he'll know whats rite 4 u!

answer plz!

Monthly water retention can be uncomfortable and annoying. But simple lifestyle changes can usually relieve this common premenstrual symptom.

Premenstrual water retention is that bloated, heavy, full feeling that occurs a week or two before your period begins and goes away after your period starts. For most women, water retention before menstruation is just a monthly bother, but in some cases, it can be severe enough to interfere with daily activities. Luckily, there are other options besides spending five days in your "fat pants." Lifestyle changes, medications and natural remedies can help ease your bloated belly.

Water retention is just one of more than 200 symptoms that have been linked to a woman's monthly menstrual cycle
