UTI's and Urologists?!
Question: I have had sever problems with frequent UTI's and then with just thinking that i have one because i have all the symptoms but sometimes the tests show up with no infection. So I am going to see a urologist and I was just wondering if anyone has gone to one for something like this and what exactly do they do because have you pee in a cut. do they do any pelvic exams or anything?

I am seeing one now for frequent UTIs - sometimes they do not show up on dip tests in the doctor's office, but if they are sent to a lab that does a bacteria count they will show up with a MASSIVE infection. This can happen sometimes, esp. if your urine has a low pH. My urologist sent me to get 2 CT scans of my pelvis and abdomen. They did one with iodine contrast and one with barium. They are looking for abnormalities and to see if stones are forming (they think by my bacteria count and distribution I have had mine for 5+ months and it was never picked up by the SIX dip tests I had). I also got a pelvic ultrasound and a trans-vaginal ultrasound to rule out other reasons for pelvic pain.
It may be good to request to do a first morning urine sample if you live close to a lab - you may get a better result.
If I keep getting these then he is going to give me some test that they insert a camera into my urethra to look for problems. However, he is starting with the CT scans and ultrasounds.
I have been going through the same thing for the last couple of months. It could be caused by an STD so I would get a vaginal exam. The frequent UTI's can be from bacteria geting into you urethra while having sex.
