Question: Hi, I have a problem, my friend and I have just started our periods, I am 16 and she is 15 and her mum died a year ago and she doesn't know which pads or tampons to get cos she is living with her dad and her 4 brothers.

I have my mum but I don't know whether or not to ask my mum for help over here periods or would my mum feel uncomfortable talking to my friend?

My question is what pads or tampons should we use or what brands she is currently using tissues, I have given her a pack of mine but she won't use them cos she thinks that she will have to buy me some when it comes round to it next time!!!!

Am sorry but we just need some help on this can anyone help us out on what brands or whatever to go for please we really need your help thank you.

I would suggest asking your mum first and seeing what she says about it and with her mum died a yr ago she won't have anyone to talk about women's things.

The only thing I would suggest to you is to buy the lilets regular or the Tampax regular they have a applicator and they are both plastic applicators, so they are very easily to slide in.

For pads I would by the always ultra nights cos they are longer and they have wings.

Or if you want the best protection so when your both out and about then use both for the most protection cos in case you have a leakage then you have always got a pad to back up as protection.

Here have a look at this website and it will give you all the information you girls possibly need.

Good luck any other problems just email me.

go see ya mum, we're women after all

I'm sure your mum would be quite willing to help - otherwise, the only way you can ever know what works for you or your friend is to keep trying different brands until you work out what you prefer.

you could ask your mum for advice and then pass it on to your friend without telling your mum thats who its for.
i doubt she will feel uncomfortable if you ask her to talk to your friend, shes a women and periods are a part of that.

you should just try out a few different types of pads and brands find whats most comfortable for you, the same with tampons

trial and error, if they are heavy go for super with wings, very heavy super plus with wings, most girls can just use regular or if they are very light use a pantyliner, as far as brand goes they are all the same basically so she can get the least expensive if she chooses

I think you and your friend should definitely talk to your mum about it. That is what she is here for. Don't be embarrassed, every woman has a period and it's normal to be unsure at first.

Aww i really think you should talk to your mum, and im sure she would help you out with your friend. but the good brands in which you can use is "Always" but depending on what money situations your in and make will do, i mean if im needing them desperate sometimes i just use tesco's own or something along those lines. Theres so many different types of pads and tampons out there, When i first started i used pads not tampons but its compltly up to how you and your friend feels.

I would just talk to your mum, thats what they're there for=] She will prob feel hurt if she thought you couldnt talk to her about it.

I am 14 and started having periods 2 years ago. I have been using Tampax tampons and they are good. They have different sizes as well depending on how heavy your flow is. Take your friend to a nurse and she will give you plenty of advice and information and probably some free samples. As for the pads just use any you like. I would recommend 'Always Ultra'

I would think that because you girls are just starting to get your periods that you have a light flow. I would use Always with wings. The wings will protect the sides of your panties. Go to the website www.always.com. From there select your country and away you go. The site can help select the type of protection that would be right for both of you, plus you can get a free sample. Also both of you girls should go to your mom/dad. Both parents need to know that there has been a change. You may feel more comfortable going to your mom. Your friend may feel uncomfortable going to her dad, but remember her dad knows about what happens to women, and how else is she going to get the money. Also don't you think that her dad will notice the used products in the garbage.

As yous are just after starting your periods a litle while ago..id suggest to leave the tampons for a while and go with the pads. they are much easier, then when you get to know your own flow and what feels right for you then move on to tampons, if you want to. There are all different kinds of brands of pads. for example theres ones for heavy periods, light periods and then theres ones that are for the size of the female(you know, they are longer so they will fit them better). My best suggestion is pads called allways. Most people I know use these. your friend will know what ones will suit her cos her period might be different to yours. tell her to get the ones with wings on them as the wings fold on to the back of yout underwear and doesnt move about. I hope my answer helps.

i prefer 2 use tampons there way better cause wen u use pads the smell from the blood smells realy bad and sometimes u can smell it through your pants and it gets all sweaty down there but if your going to use them get Always with the side wings or if your going to use tampons get tampax pearl

the best kind of pads are always... they come in a green packages and are really comfortable [i suggest wearing pads if its your first period]
the best tampons are tampax plastic pearl [they are VERY comfortable]

the best part is that when you buy both of those brands your donating some of your money to the girl who can't afford protection ...or at least thats what ive heard?

well when buying pad there are a vast of choices...i will try to sum it up the best that i can..
the pads that i use are always...
depending on how heavy or light
they have ultra thin...regular with or without wings...maxi with or without wings...
super with out or without wings
and super plus or overnight with or without wings.
the order that i gave u are in absorbency level from lightest to highest flow..
they have carefree..stayfree....store brand...but always is the best and i used it for years
when using tampons....its really the same thing
light-less than 6 grams of blood
regular-6-9 grams
super-9-12 grams
super plus-12-15 grams
the tampons that i recommend is Tampax pearl plastic
but there is a risk when using tampons
its called TSS
which stands for toxic shock syndrome
to reduce the risk use tampons and pads in between ur period to reduce the risk of getting TSS
tampons also come with scent or no scent
the same with pads
and the other thing i love about Always pads is that they come with a wipe so that u stay fresh and clean anywhere u go..
i wish u the best of luck

i would suggest you use pads NOT tampons at your age because of the toxic syndrome, pads are much safer and better for you, but your friend should talk to your mum if she feels uncomfortable with it tell your mum to bring the subject up im sure your mum will help her good luck

ok she cant use tissues talk to ur mom she will be hsappy to help

Im sure your mum would be more than understanding, esp considering the circumstances with your friend. And she is a woman and gone through it all before after all.
Just ask her, its not as bad as you think and youll feel much better when all is said and done! xx

hi, I'm sure your mum would be fine talking to your friend about this sort of thing. i wouldn't suggest using tampons at a young age, so sanitary towels will probably be best for you, and your friend. i don't know where abouts you are, to know if you have different brands to me, but I've found ALWAYS really good, whether i was light or heavy at the time, as they do a wide selection. you might be better off, if you go with an older cousin, or someone, to a chemist, or supermarket and check out your local stuff. plus, you and your friend should be able to ask a member of staff if you go to the chemist, and they should be able to tell you what you should be using. good luck and all the best.
