37 wks. There is a strange smell coming from below...?!

Question: No such thing as TMI in the pregnancy topic!

at 36 wks. last Wednesday I was checked for the first time, my dialation was 2cm and I was 50% effaced. That was 5 days ago. On Thurs. I lost part of my mucus plug.

I do not have any STD's or infections.

Today while at the OBGYN I forgot to mention the smell.. and if she noticed, she didn't say anything!

So then, it smells like my husbands semen... BUT, we haven't has sex, well, for too long (New Years Eve).

What could this possibly be from?

Did it smell sweet? If it was it could be that your slowly leaking amnio fluid. which is pretty normal around that time. It means your getting close!

how long have u had it? do you have anything coming from your vag that is like a watery looking stuff? it might be amnotic fluid!

Hmmm...honestly, I'd call the nurse at your OBGYN's clinic about that one! Just to be on the safe side. I don't know what it could be, but with a pregnancy, it's not something I'd mess around with. Chances are, since you're dilated and effaced, it's probably normal. Probably just from the mucus plug. But call a nurse to be certain.

I'm thinking that it could be a urinary tract infection. I never get pain when I have one but the odour is awful.

I presume your OB did an internal exam today, if so she should have ruled out yeast, you would think she would have seen that.

I would get a urine test done.

Is your belly touching the top of your legs? If so, you could have a yeast infection on the skin. Usually it is sore and/or itchy though. It can smell bad as well. Using monistat cream should help for that.

Hope you find out soon

It's probably the rest of the mucus plug and possibly some amniotic fluid. I would give the OB's office a call and let them know and check if you should come in.

Semen primarily smells like albumen and you get that with mucus.

Good luck! Not much longer :)
