My gyn told me that there was nothing wrong with using the pill to skip periods - there are some where the hormone dose is constant, so if you start a new pack immediately after finishing the last one, instead of stopping for a week, you just won't get a period.

Obviously, however, you will need to talk to your dr about this.

Your age shouldn't matter, but she might not feel totally comfortable putting you on a high-dose pill so she may recommend one that is better for teens - I'm not a doc, so I don't really know how that works, I could be totally wrong. But really any pill should make them shorter and lighter, with less cramping, and might be a good idea.

It's never healthy to completely stop your period. If your period is too heavy, go see a gynecologist and see about getting on a pill to make you have lighter periods or have a period every 4 months. There are lots of options out there, but you need to have some kind of period to stay healthy.

Go to the GYN and ask if there is something you can do. If you haven't been to a GYN yet, at 15 it's time to get your first check-up anyway. The pill should help with the flow, but your parents may protest! Best to have a doctor recommendation to back you up.

Your period will never just stop.
Even with those pills that say that you will only have your period every few months, there is still the chance of spotting in between.
If you are having other problems with your period, see your doctor. Otherwise, a week long period isn't terrible. I know people who will get it up to 10 days.

GO TO A GYN AND ASK HIM/HER IF IT IS OK

I have the same problem and went to my OB/Gyn for help. He did a checkup and found that I had cysts on my ovaries (masses of tissues that are very common in woman). These were causing the heavy bleeding and the long periods. He put me on birth control pills, which have significantly reduced the blood and the length of my period. He told me that since my periods were very heavy that I could take a pack and then immediately start a new one to prevent a period. There is NOTHING wrong with this, but he said only to do it every other month to start.

It is very common for teens to go on birth control to regulate their periods (also to lighten them).

You could, there is no harm in it.
