Female help!!!?!

Question: I have been having problems monthly right before my period ever since i got mirena iud. for the week prior i will have itching that resembles a yeast infection but there is no yeast present and yeast meds actually irritate the itching more. vagisil and vagigard relieve it usually. it's not that intense so i've just been using those. sometimes it gets so dry in the area between my bum and vaginal opening that little splits will appear. they usually go away after a day or so if i put some neosporin or desitin on them. there are no bumps or discharge, just some slight redness. no burning, no urge or pain with urination, no sores other than the little slits, no odor. this happens almost every month prior to my period. sometimes it only lasts for a couple days and it's really mild. other times if i'm particularly stressed or not getting enough sleep it wil last up to a week and a half. i'm terrified it could be herpes...what do you all think? any other ideas??

Some of these symptoms could be related to using Mirena (an example only). It can have the potential like with the pill to cause a yeast infection to occur even though not all visible signs are there such as with the discharge. Redness can sometimes be a symptom of a yeast infection for some.

It is also possible that another type of hormone imbalance could be going on and creating issues with your vulvar area such as the slits (some women describe it as like paper cuts) such as a condition called vulvodynia (an example only).

Vulvodynia is a technical term for pain of the vulva (the external genital area).

I would recommend getting back in touch with your doctor to let her know that you are still very concerned about what you are experiencing and would like to ask some more questions.

If you have additional questions for me please feel free to
e-mail or IM me off site any time.
