You had said that you don't THINK that he has it. To me that tells me that you are not 100% sure. If you are not 100% sure (and no one can ever be completely sure), then get tested. A negative test result will at least set your mind at ease and remind you to be more careful in the future.

As for symptoms, it really depends on the person and which strain of HIV they are infected with. It could take a decade (or more) before symptoms present themselves.

Good luck!

it can remain dormant for more than 12 years

did he hav HIV? if not why would you get it?

Everyone having unprotected sex should get themselves checked as a matter of course. I would.

If you are worried, go to your doctor and have a test. Not just HIV but have the works done. That way your mind will be at ease. Make an appointment today! Good luck.

You are not being paranoid. Any unsafe behaviour is reason to be concerned. The best thing to answer your questions it to have an HIV test done. You can go to your local planned parenthood and have it done for free if necessary and it is completely confidential. Your ex's new girl probably has had an HIV test since she is pregnant. Most states require this now to do some preventative care during the pregnancy. Good health.

For many people initial infection with HIV is asymptomatic.After2- 6 weeks the virus disseminates around the body. It is a long term condition. In the intermediate stage there will b symptoms of immune deficiency. In the final stage there will be malignancies or opportunistic infections or the lymphocyte count will be reduced. So if you are having any doubt better do tests for HIV. About 50% develop AIDS within 10 years of infection but the number of long term non-progressors are increasing. It varies between individuals. Age , genetic factors and mode of transmission all play in progression of the disease.

if there is any reason for you to doubt him and think you may have caught HIV then get tested asap just to be on the safe side. if she did have it i doubt she would make it public so you wouldnt hear about it anyway. instead of making yourself paranoid get checked and then you can put your mind at rest. it isnt too bad is just taking bloods so they can be tested for it. and you dont always get symptoms at all of any stds. good luck.
