PCOS, Metformin and pregnancy?!

Question: I started Metformin for my polycystic ovaries on feb 15 I still have not gotten a period. How long does it take to obtain a period if you do get your period on this medication? I am on 1000 mg a day. Anyone who knows thanks???? Also since I haven't had my period do I need to worry about getting pregnant?

I am also on metformin, you should get yourself up to 2000mg a day to know if it is going to work for you or not. It does work for some people and others it doesn't. It is different for each person.

i find metformin really good for me, it helped me fall pregnant although I miscarried 3 months later. Very common with PCOS.

Metformin yes it is a diabetic drug but is proven to help PCOS and fertility.

I would still use protection because it could kick in at anytime and if you dont want to fall pregnant it is best to take those precautions.

there are other types of medication you can try that may be better but it is all a bit of trial and error unfortunately.

BTW the pill can control the symptoms if you are not planning to fall pregnant and it can possibly help bring on your period to help the metformin work but as i said it hides the symptoms you want treated.

Metformin is for diabetes and won't help with your periods with PCOS (both my daughters have it). You need to be on a birth control pill like Yasmine to get your periods started.

PCOS in itself can cause you not having a normal period. It is probably to do with the PCOS and the drugs. http://www.healthline.com/multumcontent/...

judging by this, I would say that this is normal.
