You may start soon, it's a good idea to ask your mom or older sister when they started their period as it is a good guide to when you'll get your period - discharge is just your vagina cleaning itself out, it changes throughout your menstrual cycle but isn't really a guide to say that your period will start soon, only that your body is maturing.

If worried about school then create a little bag to take with you, include things like pads or pantiliners, a menstrual cup if you want to use something internal (you can wear these before your period is due to avoid mess too, they can be left in for 12 hours so great for during your school day - they are also far safer and cleaner than tampons, not as messy as pads as they go inside your body), hand wipes, a calandar to note when you got your period so you can tell when it may be due next month, a spare pair of underwear in case they get blood on them, scented bags to throw away your used pads, maybe some clary sage oil (you rub this on your tummy to stop cramps - you don't need to suffer cramps, they are preventable). You can get all sorts of little 'first period' kits or just put one together yourself.

Don't worry, your first period is a good thing, even if you get your period in school chances are it won't be too heavy so you just use some toilet paper until you get home (or even ask a female teacher to be excused if worse comes to worse). Try telling your mom about your worries, also now would be a good time to discuss with her how you want to celebrate when you do get your period - if worried about talking to her try leaving her a note.

if u r scared make sure u keep a pad in ur backpack encase u start at school. if the discharge is bothering u wear a pantyliner.

This could be a signal that your going to start soon. Don't worry about starting at school. Make sure you have a pad on you whilst at school, then you wont get caught out! You will be fine.

i know it's quite scary - by the way we have the same avatar - Freaky!

You can prevent some of this worry by being prepared and having your supplies with you. That means keeping sanitary pads in your purse, backpack, or locker. Pads, also called sanitary napkins, are made of absorbent material and they stick to your underwear. The pad will catch blood that comes out and keep your clothes from getting stained.

Older girls who've been getting their periods for a while might use tampons. Tampons are absorbent plugs that are inserted into the vagina. These can be more convenient if a girl is playing sports or going swimming.

If you haven't had your period yet, talk to someone who can help you get your supplies together. This might be your mom, an older female relative, or whomever you feel comfortable with. Make it clear that you want to be ready for the big day, whenever it arrives.

You also might talk to your doctor when you go for a checkup. Just by looking at you - and how much you've developed so far - your doctor may be able to tell you, roughly, how soon to expect your first period. It could be arriving in the next 6 months, or it could be a year or more away.

Uh-Oh
Sometimes girls aren't prepared for their periods. (Don't feel bad if this is you because it happens to grown women, too!) So what do you do? You're at school and there it is. Your period has arrived and you don't have your stuff. If it's your first period, you may be really excited and also a little worried. If it's not your first period, you might just be worried. What are you supposed to do?

Ask to visit the nurse. If your school doesn't have a nurse, ask to see the school counselor. Or maybe you have a teacher you really like who you can ask for help. You'll need some supplies. The school nurse or counselor should be able to help. You might feel a little shy about asking, but just say, "I started my period today and I don't have my supplies." If you don't want to talk to a male teacher or counselor, you can just say, "It's a girl thing." He will get the message and find you a woman who can help.

Even if you get the help you need from school staff, you also might call one of your parents. If it's your first period, you probably will want to tell your mom or dad what happened and how you're feeling.

you sound all set to go! listen, usually when your gonna come on and your out and about or in your case at school, you'll feel quite kinda heavy, like your gonna pee or something but more on the way out if you get me?! just carry some towels around and when you feel like your gonna start, go pee! I think you are, i felt the same when i came on when i was thirteen (im now 17)! im sure you'll be fine, just keep thinking it happens to every girl!

hey its life. you go from 1st period to 2nd period and so on and so on deal with it

You might start soon...or it may be months from now.

What you REALLY need to remember is that it's not going to be this huge messy GUSH of blood...it'll be a bit of spotting in your underwear that you'll most likely discover when you go to the restroom. At which time you simply attach a pad to your underwear and go about your day.

So step #1 is to start carrying a sanitary pad or panty liner in your purse or backpack...and maybe even a change of under clothing...just in case.

yes, it sound like you will start soon. If you are really worried start wearing pantiliners to school, then if you do start its got somewhere to go until you get to the toilets. They're really thin pads. and carry a couple of pads in your bag just incase. I'd say try not to worry, but that probably wont help cos it is a big change.

Well..yeah since you're 12 =]
I started at 13
You just gotta have painkillers & tampons/towels with you =]
You needn't worry about this, it's a natural thing...for women Lol!
Hope It Goes Well =] Lol

i haven't started either hun and i'm 14! But i'm getting the same symptoms, i've just been told to always have a pad handy ;)

Good Luck x

Don't worry! It won't suddenly rush through your pants and make a big puddle on the school chair. I've heard stories like that, and either they're made up or VERY rare! I started at school, and it starts off slow at first. You're bound to go to the toilet or notice an uncomfortable feeling before it gets that bad! Then you can either use one of the machines in the loos, ask a friend or use tissue until you get home. My periods were very heavy back when I first started, lasting for about a week, with the first two days being heaviest, but even so, like I said, when you first 'come on,' it takes at least a couple of hours to really get going.

Sounds like it! Another way of telling is your breasts will start to grow roughly a year before your period starts.
I was terrified mine would start during school. Luckily it didn't but my advice is this:

Carry sanitory towels with you. Don't start with tampons as they will hurt and you're having to cope with change already.
Make sure you know what to do when it does finally come. Have a chat with your mum or older sister or a friend who has already started.
You also might want to hold a hot mug or something warm to your tummy as it helps to get rid of the pain. And rubbing your tummy! This helps me too!

Hope it's not too awful for you!
